I don't doubt it. I download torrents all the time but it is mostly non-illegal material.

Great article, i'm nicking it for a cross post on my LJ.

the traffic shaping may explain why my torrents at home haven't been loading as fast as they used to. if nothing else i'll upgrade my client program for the hell of it and see if that makes a change.

i wish there were a way to tell, but i'm curious to see home much of that band with is being taken up by Porn torrents.

ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH you bastard computer!!!!!

FUPISHCU went a bloody crashed before I posted my nice response!!!! ARGH!!!!!

Right, anyway, here's the jist of what I was saying...

Somehow I doubt it's any higher than 30% of the entire internet - besides, there's plenty of other ways masses of data are transferred - other softwares, Direct Connect, over MSN, Usenet or whatever.

We're on Tiscali here and there's this "fair usage policy" thing, so between 6pm and 11pm you can't use P2P software - fair enough - that's when all the kiddywinks get online (even though your speeds will crash right down just before 5pm cos of all the bloody kids coming back from school chatting on MSN thinking their lives are so terrible and that they're so hard-done-to...pfft).

I'm sticking to the F.U.P. guidelines - they're happy, I'm happy - sorted.

I think I said something else, but I've been in an utter red-faced uber-rage at this freakin' computer which can't multitask to save it's life, especially when it's connected to the net, geez! Despite it's many annoyances, it's an old friend, so it won't be put out to pasture yet...but damnit, stop freezing up!!!

Do you use Zone Alarm? I found that slowed down my torrents, and in particular after a day or two would make my machine really slow!

Out of interest, if you on XP SP2, try enabling M$ firewall, and exit Zone Alarm for a day or two, and see if you notice any difference with Torrents etc...

You probably won't, but I personally noticed if I was torrenting:-
- Torrents seemed to download better. (In Azereus I have a status light at the bottom middle of the window, and it would not go GREEN (properly connected) with ZA on!
- After a day or so, my machines performance would get very mushy/slow. Without ZA this doesn't happen.

Nah, I never really bothered to look into this zone alarm thing - but I've instead got 5 other layers of security. I was going to get Peer Guardian 2.0 ... but I couldn't find it anywhere to download, well I did, but it kept saying it was only for Windows NT - even though the site said it was for all Windows

Speaking of torrents, I've got Mr & Mrs Smith to finish and Lost 215 to nab! Haha, wicked, this day is turning out not too badly thus far.

Negative, the last time i tried updated to SP2 it fried my computer and ceated so many cirtical faults and system error, i had to completely wipe my system. i basicly lost everything on my computer.

so i'm not using any of microsofts updates, ever.

further, i have noticed if i leave my system on for aday or so it starts to run very chunky. i hadn't considered it could be ZA. i think at this point i'm going to check and see if my wireless route has a firewall enabled on it. i think it actually may.
