Anybody else on here do any exploring of abandoned places? It's a true love of my life. I've spent countless hours just roaming the hallways of empty mental institutions or walking down the streets of abandoned towns. I even used to spend whole weekends with a couple friends at one mental facility; we'd bring sleeping bags, plenty of beer, and enough food for 3 days.

Here are some pictures I've taken over the years. I'd love to see anyone elses pictures or hear some stories about places they've been.

I've got a ton more from many other places but I'm sure you guys are sick of looking at them.

Nice pics.

While it's possible to find an abandoned farmstead or building every now and then, most of the abandoned college campuses or large facilities like this around here were converted into jails during the 80's.

if any of you followed the link i posted t'uther day youd see america has tons of abandoned towns ,you dont see that much of this stuff in england, possibly since weve been living here for 10's of 1000's of years.

though once i explored an abandoned insane asylum in nottingham, old gothic route iron **** and scary as fook.

so i guess you could call me an amatuer urban explorer, though its odd how most people who dig this stuff are interested in TAPS ghost huntin' shiat.

Ah, the joys of being where you aren't supposed to.

Some of the coolest places out there are those that have been forgotten or otherwise placed off-limits to the general public.

The sad part about a lot of these places is that folks who visit them all too often refuse to tread lightly, and vandalasim and other general asshattery really ruin it for people who genuinely appreciate the ability to visit.

I was going to say the exact same thing. It is sad that some @$$holes destroy old buildings by tearing things up and spraypainting $hit on the walls.

Word of caution though on exploring those old haunts:

1) Some of those buildings may have weak floors, walls or ceilings.

2) They may have asbestos in the material some numbnut tore out that you wouldn't want to breathe in.

3) Some communities may not take kindly to 'exploring' those abandoned buildings and consider it trespassing, a criminal offense.

BTW- Is that big building a hospital? Was that the mental hospital you were talking about?

And, does anyone know of any actual standing ghost towns/abandoned towns in Ohio by chance?

:dead: Dawg :skull:

Those are some friggin' awesome photos, I wish there was that sort of thing around where I live. Best we've got is a sealed off old hospital in the center of town, but you can't even get onto the main grounds, it's all fenced off. I bet it'd be a wicked place to film a zombie film in. Some excellent pictures there, but have you ever come across any undesirable type folk - druggies, thugs, asshats etc? If so, what did you do?

*ahem*

OH, I explored this abandoned building in Lawrence. It was a dorm I believe that was never quite finished. I tried to find it again once but could not remember where the location in Lawrence, KS it was. This was in 1989 I think. I am sure they tore it down by now.

It's very rare that you ever run into anybody in places like that. When you do it's 99% of the time someone, just like you, having a good time exploring.

Although it's funny you should say that because today me and a couple friends were at a place and ran into some annoying kid that was in there alone. He followed us around for a while and acted like he was cooler by knowing the names of every building we went into. Then he started spray-painting swastikas all over the place and we let him know his presence wasn't welcome. The rest of the time we spent there I was completely paranoid, thinking the kid was going to jump out from some random dark room and stab me with a shard of glass.
