Hehheh...a laserdisc would now be classified as an ancient collectible item that only we old folks remember. ;)

Think what would happen if a vinyl had freaky sex with a DVD :D There's your Laserdisc. I never was into those, a bit before my time, I was a VHS junkie ... now I'm a DVD whore.

Same here! DVD WHORE to the fullest. Even Lou is a major DVD hound. He has thousands in CD bags.

DVDs in CD bags?! Sacrilege! :D

Ah, I remember the days when I was ****ed off at DVD because it was taking over from VHS ... I still have all my VHS tapes, I ain't upgrading them ... well, not ALL of them anyway.

I knew I had DVD-itis bad when I started replacing VHS' with DVDs ... and then one version of a DVD with a better version - replacing a DVD with a DVD is terminal DVD-itis.

The only cure is "I ain't got not money, bitches" syndrome. I have that at the moment, but it's given rise to download-marathon-opia.

If you have "I gots money to burn" condition, then you're only option is to give-way and just embrace your DVD-itis ... it's like scratching pox. Wrong, but oh so goooood.

I am a laserdisc fiend. Currently I am on a pace of one disc per month purchased. I love the things! I am mainly interested in DTS audio lasers, because they offer full on uncompressed signals, not the half bit rate DTS that DVD features. Some of my DTS titles include...

Speed
Eric Clapton Unplugged
Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park: The Lost World
Alien Ressurection
Tina Turner: Live From Amsterdam
Halloween H20

Too bad I didn't know this before I chucked out a large portion of my LDs after replacing them with DVDs. None of them were DTS though.

God, I forgot they had laser discs in the 1970s. I only ever think of them as a flash-in-the-pan 80s phenom.

Danny

in the 70s werent they the size of a vynle record?

I don't remember renting VHS tapes in the 70s, hence my exposure to laser discs at the rental store was limited to the 80s, so all I can say is that in the early 80s they were about as big as vinyl records. I highly doubt they could have been any bigger in the 70s as that would have been inconvenient as hell.

Ah geez, you young rap-scallion, VHS rocks. A movie comes on a VHS - it looks like a movie, it has the feel, the texture and the smell of a movie. There's no such thing as a "DVD Nasty" or "DVDrome".

Yes I'm a DVD whore, but I'll always be a video-child.

What the sh*t is a C.E.D?

DjfunkmasterG

If I remember correctly it was this square plastic thin dataholder, Like an oversized MiniDisc, that you inserted into a player. The movie was on both sides and you had to insert side A and B to load the content. Then put side A back in to watch the movie. It was probably the first format into the digital revolution. This was before COmpact discs even came out.

Bloody hell, old school.

Speaking of old formats, I remember when I was a kid my first exposure to video games was this machine which had games on cassette tape. It took forever and a day to rewind and it was really, really old school graphics. Is that a Spectrum or what? I must have been like 4 at the time. I was 9 before I got my own console (Mega Drive 2 in 1993, boo-yah!). Still have that Mega Drive 2 actually ... ahh memories. (aka Sega Genesis).

All LD's are as big as a Vinyl record. Weren't CED's just Laser discs in a special cover?

The first time I saw a Laser Disc was in Airport '77. The plane had an LD player, it was coooool man!

Yup. RCA wanted to cash in on Pioneer's LD format, so they created the vinyl equivalent for video. The players used a stylus to play the discs, just like a record player. The discs would skipping after a few plays. A real crap format that deserved to die.

DVD is impressive, but there is always something better. What ****es me off about DVD is the technology. They now have DVD-18 which is a dual sided 9gb per side DVD, and they suck. Cinderella Man is one of these and I had to buy a new DVD player just to watch the entire frigging movie cause my 3 yr old Sony didn't have the technology to read it properly and it kept wigging out.

I have a Pioneer DVD player from 1997 and that thing still kicks. After 6 solid hours of playing it starts fudging up, but let it cool down for an hour and it works, but it doesn't do too good with Dual Layer discs. However, it will play any burned DVD I throw at it as long as it was burned on decent Media.

I just now saw this post, for a second I thought it was either the Pefect Edition or the Conclusion. You got my hopes up! Cant find either of those for less than $200, which is too much to spend. I really want to get those two though, just not at that price.
