Spotted this over on ActionTrip.com:

In this week's edition of German magazine Der Spiegel, Phil Harrison, president of Sony Computer Entertainment's Worldwide Studios, addresses the issue of Sony's alleged copying of the Wii motion-sensitive controller with their own PS3 tilt-sensitive controller, but what's even more precious is Phil's prediction that PS3 will literally kill the PC as a gaming platform:

Besides defending the PS3, Harrison took time to evangelize the device, which will launch worldwide this November. In particular he said the Linux-based operating system on the console's hard drive will have enough processing power and non-gaming functionalities to render traditional PCs--most of which use a form of Microsoft's Windows OS--moot in the home. "We believe that the PS3 will be the place where our users play games, watch films, browse the Web, and use other [home] computer functions," said Harrison. "The PlayStation 3 is a computer. We do not need the PC."

Phil, baby, do you know how many people are gaming/browsing the net for porn/gaming at work? Phil... baby... are they gonna have PS3s at work? Am I gonna be able to work in Photoshop, download porn, movies AND play games on the PS3 while chatting with my friend WITH A ****ING KEYBOARD? Phil, seriously. Drugs. Bad.

These guys need to pull the dildo's out of their asses and wake up to the real world. The SHEER ARROGANCE of these guys has completely turned me against Playstation, when I get some money to spend (hopefully soon) then I'm getting my ass an Xbox, like I've said before.

*sigh*

The utter, unbridled, unrestricted ARROGANCE of these tossers...geez.

That's just retarded. There's no way the PS3 will replace the PC. How in the hell will I do homework or type papers on the thing. Don't get me wrong. I'm not bashing the system since I will probably get one soon, but come on that statement was just idiotic. So Phil...here you go. :moon:

Btw, around here stores are not taking pre-orders for PS3 until October. Also I overheard a manager at EB Games stating that the 360 will have a price drop very very soon. But I can't verify it being legit.

If we didn't know better it would seem that they are actively trying to make the PS3 a failure . They should just stop doing interviews because the more they do the deeper their grave is becoming .

' A report in the New York Times didn’t help, as it said that some of Sony's own developers were not given the PS3 controller's tilt-sensitive controller until just weeks prior to its unveiling at E3 2006 in May. '

much like the rumble feature, analog controller , and now a knock off the wii controller. i guess imitation is the best form of flatery as they say.

as miyamoto pointed out, the tilt sensing device was used in kirby tilt and tumble, like 3 years ago. but wii is full out motion sensing.

r.i.p ps3

I hope the 360 has a price drop, it's still a bit pricey (but nothing like £400-odd!), but like I said I'll be buying one hopefully soon. I wouldn't be surprised if it's true to co-incide with the PS3's launch with that epic price tag, so that people on the 50/50 decision marker might end up choosing a 360 because of the cost. Microsoft are bastards, but we already knew that and you can't deny they're a machine at what they do, Sony with this PS3 have just turned into the p*ssy actor who's demanding more than they deserve to turn up in the sequel to a hit movie.

We all know what happened to Crispin Glover don't we? lol.

Is that dollars and pounds? I saw one for about £80 with controllers and games the other day, which is damn good for a console here in expensive old Britania. So that's $150.

A 360 is about £270 (just over $500) at the moment - roll on price drop! - and a PS3 is apparently going to be £420 (about $784!!!) here in the UK. And with the unbridled arrogance of Sony, I know where money will be going ... when I have some money that is. :D

Even though still just a rumor, there is suppose to be some sort of price drop for the 360, but most likely it will be with package deals that will include the webcam and other new accessories. Either way, I don't think MS would pass up the chance to make the 360 even more attractive to gamers on a budget (meaning PS3 is out of their current budget) by cutting the price down abit. Even a 50 dollar price cut is alot.

The funny thing about Harrison's remarks is him touting the PS3 as a computer. Why the hell would a parent buy his/her kid a PS3 to be also used as a computer for homework, studies, etc. That's like telling a pyro that part of his rehab from being a firebug is that he'll have access to a lighter and tank of gas.

No kid with a PS3 will do homework on that console when he's too busy playing the latest game.

pathetic, just pathetic.

SCEA is going to be for some massive personal restructuring come Q2 2007.

Phil there may want to start polishing his resume.

Lets spare a though for gaming journalists
Imagine being a writer of PS mags, imagine trying to put a posative spin on PS3 right now. They can't do it, all they can do is repeatedly trash the competiton or give solid facts with no pun or wit. They can only tout MGS4 and GTHD for so long, they can only say Wii is dead on arrival and Xbox 360's botched launch is it's death for so long before they go demented.

Hell...the PS2 isnt worth the price they charged for it. A high percentage of the PS2's end up with the famous disc read error problem, not to mention the PS2 is notorious for scratching discs for no reason. They knowingly left these problems in the PS2 and sold them anyway. Knowing Sony...the PS3 will have lots of problems as well.

fyi if you get in the disc read error in a 30000-30001r model sony has to by settlement replace or fix it for free. got me a free one about 2 years ago . not sure about the other models.

my free story is pretty funny, sony lost it at the factory. tried to blame the ups guy on stealing it. until i aslked why would a guy steal a broken ps2...... delievery confirmation saved me there.

that us dollars, and pretty sneak of them to pack in forza motorsports. and put the price back up to 179.00 it used to be 149.00 if not mistaken. word was it was to offset the sale of xboxs so people would be more inclined to buy a c0re 360 .

I never understood why the PS2 was such a big deal. I thought the graphics were kinda lame (especially in comparison to middle-to-low-range PC, woo!), the controller was hideous, it doesn't fit your hands and it just hurts your thumbs like nobody's business. After playing PS2 at a mate's for like an hour my thumbs were red and raw. Xbox meanwhile, their controller FITS your hand and the rounded buttons allow you to play Halo 2 "buggernaut" (what we called it at uni) for hours and hours without your opposables dropping off.

Also as I'm no fan of MGS or GT then there's bugger all reason to go sniffing the bumhole of PS2. I'm a Splinter Cell (PC) and PGR (Xbox) kinda chap. I always felt that the PS2 was just too intense, it's like Sony is looming over you demanding you to purchase their silly console NOW!!! Meanwhile, although Microsoft is a giant, I felt the Xbox was more laid back. I've never been a Nintendo man though, ever since 1993 when I got my first (and currently only to date) console - Mega Drive 2. There was the two camps - Sega and Nintendo. Of course, we all know who won that, lol.

Mind you, I appreciate Nintendo as they've got their niche market staked out and they understand what the Asian markets are after, whereas neither of the two big boys can get their heads around it, they're decidedly Western consoles while Nintendo will always do best in Eastern markets.

I'll shut up now ... early morning meet ahoy!
