Currently the H5N1 Avian Flu virus has spread across Europe, Asia, into Africa and perhaps even the Caribbean. It's expected to reach the Americas in a few months, as bird migrate with the change in season.

I'm curious how dangerous the HPOTD community views Avian Flu.

1. Has the threat of avian flu changed your overseas travel plans?
2. Has anyone you know purchased Tamiflu or a similar drug?
3. Do you know anyone who has built up a cache of food or water because of the flu?
4. Do you expect anyone you personally know (friend, family member, or relative) will become sick as a result of Avian Flu?
5. Do you expect anyone you personally know (friend, family member, or relative) will perish as a result of Avian Flu?

how many humans have been effected by this - to date? do you know? Is it really THAT big of an issue for humans? All I see and read are articles about birds,....very few dealing with humans.

From what i've read off of the HWO website and other, non news network bull****, links, indicates the virus in it's current state is no worse than SARS. the inhierant problem is the track record Infuluenza varients have for cross species mutations, and the fact we have no natural imunity to this Avain strain.

Beyond that in into the numbered questions, no i can't say any of that criteria applies to me. However in regards to Tamiflu, there was a test sequence done in Shanghi, that indicated Tamiflu wouldn't be effective against H5N1 .
