“The ‘Dead’ has spread!” said Charlie Collier, President, AMC. “No other cable series has ever attracted as many Adults 18-49 as ‘The Walking Dead.’ This reaffirms viewers’ hunger for premium television on basic cable. We are so proud to be bringing back ‘The Dead’ again, across the globe.”

Now the real question is whether or not Darabont and company have already been writing this second season(which I think they have), and when they can start filming. What are the chances they can make it in time to get it started off next Halloween season? I imagine they don't have to have all 13 in the can before premiering the earlier episodes?

You think it will take that long?

I was thinking they would want to strike while the iron's hot.

Everyone who is not a zombie enthusiast will have forgotten about it by then, no?

Do I think next Halloween is too long? I actually think that might be too early. It usually takes more than a year between television seasons, no? Seems that way to me, anyway. And this next season is more than double of what they did this time around.

But then again, they filmed the pilot in what....June or July? Three or Four months before it aired? So maybe they can actually pull it off, but I dunno. The only way I can see it working is if most of the season is already written, which like I said earlier I believe they've known about this for a long while now and have indeed been working on it, and they'll be shooting the later episodes in the season while the first is premiering or about to premiere. Who knows? I just figured with 13 episodes expecting another season before Halloween is pushing it.

Maybe we'll get lucky with a start date in the coming months.

Judging from AMC's scheduling with its previous two hits, Breaking Bad and Mad Men, The Walking Dead will probably be on an annual schedule.

In fact, if I was the head executive for AMC, I would work out some sort of staggered schedule involving the three shows so that they don't overlap much if at all. Then you could debut new shows and use one of the Big Three- four if you count Rubicon- as a launching point (not only to advertise the new show, but to also run the new show after Mad Men/Breaking Bad/The Walking Dead to attempt to increase viewership) all year.

In an unrelated note, if I was the head executive of AMC I would also commission a television adaptation of Tron (written and directed by...I dunno, the guys behind Battlestar Galactica maybe), stop showing Wild Wild West, and create a money vault with a giant dollar symbol on the outside so that I could swim around inside it a la Scrooge McDuck.
