I just watched this for the first time, bloody brilliant film! I actually felt pretty scared by it too which is rare for me in films, and the way it was shot made me feel like I was actually trapped in there with them. I'm assuming most people here will have seen it already, so whats the HPOTD verdict? and is the US remake "Quarantine" worth watching or does it ruin it a bit knowing its not the original? Theres probably already threads about this film on here but the search function wasnt playing with the title only being 3 letters...

Search for it as [REC] & you'll get better hits. ;)

Short awswer, I loved it. Agreed on the claustrophobia angle. Thought the religious/possession angle was interesting. Haven't seen the remake, but have heard the "church" angle was dropped in favor of a "cult". Other than that, I've heard that they're pretty much identical, w/ a slight edge going to the original.

I've only see Quarantine. I guess I need to see the other, but I heard it's pretty much exactly the same. Might as well, though, because it was spooky as shit. Time for a good sequel.

I have watched both. One hints off demon possession and the remake is a described as a mutated strain of rabies. Same story, but diffrent causes for the outbreak. The remake was a little bit gorier, but not much. REC is better, IMO.

like i said way back the demonic element, particularly in rec. 2 was much better played than the virus idea which, lets be honest, was stale a decade ago.

I would not mind seeing another Demons movie, if it was done right. And it would most definately surpass the first film. Demons 2 was more funny than cool like the first Demons.

'REC' was probably one of the best horror flicks of 2007, Tricky. I absolutely loved it, especially the ending sequence which was really edgey.

However, I'd advise you to approach the sequel with MUCH caution, as it's nowhere near the standard of the original and I disliked the turn of events. I won't tell you any more, but it sucked big fat monkey balls AFAIC.

I've seen [REC]. Haven't seen Quarantine, nor do I really wish too.

It's a great film. It really scared me the first time I saw it, which was quite refreshing.

One of the parts that really scared me was when they went looking for the keys in that apartment, and when they came back out that fireman had gone, the camera looks over into the stairwell & all those things look up & start bolting up the stairs, that had me on the edge of the seat & was crapping myself about being in that situation!

I got around to seeing the sequel t'other day on Sky Movies, and here's what I thought:

http://deadshed.blogspot.com/2011/06/pentuple-bill-mini-musings-chicks.html

[REC] 2:
The original quickly got a name for itself - the first-person tale of a camera crew attending a routine emergency call with firemen, only to be dunked head first into a horrific battle against blood thirsty monsters in an apartment building. It was well crafted and frequently nerve shredding. The sequel on the other hand picks up immediately after the events of the first movie - from the perspective of a SWAT team charged with escorting a mysterious man inside so that he can carry out a, seemingly simple, task of getting a blood sample.

While the characterisation is a bit brief, and a bit blunt and simplistic (yet another panicky, shouty guy - Larra), yet the broad strokes approach gets you into the action swiftly (the entire reason to watch the movie). There's less tension this time around (but it's by no means missing), and a middle portion featuring the most annoying movie teenagers I've seen in years is nothing but pointless, aggravating filler ... but beyond that there's a nice twist to the monsters themselves, and a thrilling/creepy race to the finish line. If only they'd hacked out those beyond-stupid, totally-annoying, utterly-pointless, desperately-in-need-of-multiple-slaps, can't-wait-to-get-shot-of-them teenagers from the script in the first place!

Couldn't find specific discussion about the sequel on here, so figured I'd post about it here - what did others make of the sequel?

Bugger - I certainly didn't see that thread when I searched for it! - oh well, I'll leave it here rather than dig up another one over it at the same time.
