On another board I'm debating on the merits on whether Alien & Predator type movies should be considered horror. What say you HPOTD friends?

"Alien & Predator"-type movies?

I wouldn't say that's a genre at all. It's a franchise. And I've only seen the first film. I seem to remember it featuring a few suspensful scenes, and one could definetly argue it would fall into the "monster-movie" category. Which I believe is a sub-genre of Horror. So there you go. Yes.

I'll say Alien is definitely sci-fi/horror. Aliens is pretty much just an action flick. Can't remember the rest.

I'll also put Predator in the horror category.

The Alien franchise would be sci-fi/horror, and the Predator franchise would be sci-fi/action, in my view.

Although Aliens would be sci-fi/horror/action. Indeed though, they are both monster movie franchises too ... so they're not clearly defined by a single genre/sub-genre, but rather multiple definintions.

Im with MZ, Alien is most definatly horror/sci fi although increasingly sci fi (and less horror) with every sequel.

Predator id say is scifi/action.

Alien - scifi horror
Aliens - scifi action
Alien 3 - scifi horror(see the assembly cut - fantastic)
Alien Resurrection - scifi action crap
All three Predator films - scifi action
AVP films - scifi action crap
