I think I'm going to have to have a root canal done on my tooth. Anyone been through the process before?

I had one this past summer, it didn't hurt at all, but it was really expensive, especially since I don't have dental insurance. It cost me $650.
It was really painless the way my dentist did it. It was sore a couple of days, but not painful, just a little sore. Any pain I had I took Motrin. It wasn't perscription Motrin, just the over the counter Motrin.

err... never mind. I thought you said wisdom teeth, not root canal.

it truthfully depends on your dentist, wth a good one it'll be sore and you jaw will be still for 2-3 days. if your dentist sucks..... have you even seen that movie with Dustin Hoffman?
seriously though. you should be able to get by on 400 to 600mgs of motrin following the drilling. root canals really are no big deal.

i've actually never seen anyone do an RC on a frontal tooth, (for just that reason) normal they just yank it and put in an artifical.
Well I had some major stuff done and it is not bad if you have the right doctor. But to be honest I would rather have the tooth pulled.
I had a tooth get infected last july and my face swelled up like a balloon. What was funny is I accidentally called 911 when I tried to call voice mail. I did this doped up on pain meds. It was funny for with my face swollen the cops did not believe that it was an accident that I called them. They thought someone beat me up and insisted on searching my home. hahahahha funny.:D

While I was in bootcamp, I had a front tooth I had been kicked in have a root canal on. It wasn't to painful-- just bordeom-- plus the cute Naval doctor-- Lt Work smelt nice and she let me pick the radio ststion. Since we were guinea pigs, she experimented on my tooth-- thus taking 5 hours to do it... Oh well, it was worth it...:)

I opted to get my tooth pulled rather than root canal, mostly to do with the price rather than the pain. :)

I've had two root canals done. One was an utterly horrific experience. That was largely because I was young, had waited too long to get it taken care of and by the time I got in to see the dentist the thing was so full of the built up pressure (i.e. gas caused by decay) that it was too painful to fully anesthetize with common novocaine. That was gut-wrenchingly, skin-paling, ass crack-sweating painful.
A few years ago I had to have another root canal and it was no problem. Get the thing taken care of, and if the decay and pain hasn't gotten too bad before hand and your dentist is okay, you'll be in and out with no problem.
Oh, my first tooth was a front tooth and I didn't replace it right away till I noticed a slight discoloration 3 years later (your mileage may vary).

god this is funny as hell
i just had a root canal today at 2pm
on tooth #31
the process is simple
they drill down to the bottom of the tooth
remove the nerve
if there is no infection they then put a rubber based solution
into the canal to fill it
then you get a cap put on
the whole thing took 45 minutes or so
i have to get the cap put on
if the tooth is infected there could be a
time when you are put on antibiotics
and they drill the tooth and put a medical soution into the tooth
if it is too far gone they have to pull it
i had no problem except my mouth feels a little sore and i taste
rubber
its not a big deal
it is just expensive
but if you can save the tooth it is worth it

I had it done on my front tooth. It is the right color, but the dentist did tell me that there is a chance that in the future it could dry out and discolor. It's been almost a year and it hasn't done it so far so I am lucky!

cool. basicly there is a limited chance that when the root either dies or is removed the tooth can necrify and become discolored. about 8 times out of 10 this doesn't happen. but there is that possibility.
you are now the only person i've met that's had an RC on a frontal tooth.

RC's are not bad... I would rather go through a RC then say Lasik. When i found out how LASIK is performed I nearly yacked! :D
