Bought the DVD a month ago and have watched it a couple times since. What a great film. Really makes you think. Even though it was just his first notable role, I think its still one of Jack Nicholsen's best. Dennis Hopper was great, too. Perpetually stoned.

That cemetery sequence is probably one of the trippiest things I've ever seen.

those were the days when a movie could come out with a scene like that and no one figures on the director on being a junkie himself. I.E. another favorite Clockwork Orange

Jack Nicholson wrote a great one in 1967 called The Trip
Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Bruce Dern star in this thing. Fonda decides to dose up on LSD (bought from dealer Hopper) and Dern kinda walks him through the trip.
Rumor has it, in many of the scenes, Fonda is blitzed-twisted-tripping-balls!!!! LOL
