So, here's a video of Prey in 1998 (yes 8 years ago) running on a Pentium 266 with a voodoo 2! Note how many things from the "just released" Prey were there 8 years ago! And it had destructable environments!

WTF happened so it was canned and then finally released 8 years later!?!

Again though, this is running a frikkin Pentium 266!!!!!!!!!!

Did I mention it was running on a Pentium 266?

****ing grade A find man!

1) i'm now sold on prey for the X360.

2) Portal, now seems like even more of a rip off.

3) Great find!

I wonder ifit was running on a P266?

Well that's what the man said, and beside I think the fastest PC out then was about a 350->450 :)

Now, Neil, don't you think it's a bit inappropriate for an admin to be using such foul language?

:D

Aye I caught this over on ActionTrip.com, quite a weird sight. The graphics have clearly gone up several bundles of notches, but I must admit, the portal parts and those lighting effects looked rather spiffing for 1998.

I duno, I have this feeling I saw a trailer for Prey back in 1998, on a PC Gamer disc, perhaps for E3 1998 ... that was back when Max Payne was being previewed and Duke Nukem was on schedule, ha!

Having watched that, and then going back to playing the recently released Prey, it's quite weird to see the spinning portal is in there, the similar effects, similar weapons ... mind you, there's no destructable environments - but that was never the case with the Doom 3 engine anyway, even HL2 was limited in it's use of destruction to the environment (can you imagine what a FPS game would look like from the guys who made the Flat Out racing games? ... oh wait a minute - "Black" on the PS2, lol, I knew something like that existed - bring it to PC already!!!).

As for games running damn late - roll on Duke Nukem Forever and STALKER! :rockbrow:

Agreed, considering the time frame and the technology at hand it's considerably impressive.
