I knew it was coming out this weekend but tomorrow is also 311 day(march 11th) so I don't know. Maybe I can check it out Sunday. I know that tomorrow I gotsta party and represent 311 all day. And on top of that, I just bought a new house last week so I have alot of work ahead of me...

Besides...I have to find a theater around here that's playing it:mad:

I'm gonna do my best to see it in theater but I might end up having to wait for DVD. I'm sure AssassinFromHell will be looking to check it out as well.

If you see it before I do....let me know how it is. And try to remember the basics of the setlist!:D

in Kansas City, only ONE theater is playing it. But, it's the "cool" hippy midtown area of KC - so at least it will be a packed house with alot of REAL fans.

Being from down here in God's country, I defer to Lenny Skinny--"I hope ole Neil Young does remember--Southern man don't need him around anyhow.."

I have a hard time with Neil-- don't hate him, just ...well... I believe him to be less of an American than he should be.

The best part of CS&N is no Y...

IMHO....

NO FLAME!!! JUST AN OPINION!!

later dude....

He's Canadian.....and the Lynard Skynard song you quote is quite racist. I abhor racists.
Neil Young is a Realist.....something more Americans should be.
It might do you some good to listen to his music instead of stereotypyng someone because of what some (KKK) redneck band says.

I think good Americans stand up for what they believe in and speak their mind to make their country a better place for all, so were Neil an American, I'd think he were a quintessential American.

No flame either, just my opinion.

(I'll be renting/buying the film, I can't get out to see this thing, as it won't be playing in a theatre near me).

The lyrics "I hope ole Neil Young does remember--Southern man don't need him around anyhow.." were in reponse to Neil Young's song "Alabama".

Here are the lyrics where Neil takes a dump on Alabama
http://www.lyricsfreak.com/n/neil-young/99012.html

And of course, the Southern Man reference.
http://www.lyricsfreak.com/n/neil-young/99024.html

If I were from Alabama, I'd be a little ****ed about this as well. Don't get me wrong, Alabama has had its issues, but don't pigeon hole every citizen of the state for the mistakes of politicians. If he were talking trash about my neck of the woods, I'd be ****ed too. If you listen to the song "Sweet Home Alabama" you can tell that Lynyrd Skynyrd has a passion for the place, and don't appreciate it being talked down upon.

As for the KKK reference, that is news to me. Adreno, is there a link or something?

Being honest about Alabama is not "talkging trash". The song Southern Man is a perfect example of how "the South" still was back in the '70's. I know, I'm from "the south" (born and raised in Tennessee) and it's a backwards part of the U.S. They might as well erect a sign saying "Welcome to the Deep South, Set Your Clocks Back 100 Years"

As far as the KKK referrence, I was at a Lynard Skynard concert in the early 80's - at one point in the show, the bass player steps up to the mic and says, "Glad to see there ain't no n*ggers here!" and holds up three fingers. In some circles, the "three finger" gesture shows support for the KKK.

I always thought those lyrics in "Sweet Home Alabama" were in reference to "Southern Man" by Young. After all, LS' lyrics are "Southern man don't need him around anyhow".

I can see what you mean about Young's "Alabama". I guess both "Alabama" and "Southern Man" could work.

Doesn't matter to me anyway....I think LS is waaaay over rated. Don't get me wrong...they weren't bad musicians and they've got some good little melodies, but, I think people held them up too high. Just my opinion. Young is definitely better.

You gotta listen to all the lyrics.

I heard ol' Neil sing about her
I heard ol' Neil put her down
I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern Man don't need him around anyhow.

The first two lines are a reference to "Alabama" and the second two are a reference to Southern Man. Had he never sang the song Alabama, I doubt Southern Man would have been enough to rebut. I think Southern Man is more of a tongue-in-cheek mention that happened to fit.

Young is more of a talent, I agree with you there.

Skynyrd is more of a legendary road/jam band.

Here are a couple of interesting links I found on the subject. YOU DECIDE! :p

I too am from the south. North Florida to be exact but make no mistake, north of Orlando means you are either in South Alabama or South Georgia. The real problem with racism is that there are old people around here that are never going to budge on the issue. The problem won't completely go away until these folks start dying off, which could take many decades. We are trying though. I must hold out hope that intelligence will prevail.

As for the KKK reference at the concert, that sucks. I think it is important to mention that Skynyrd as we know it went down in that fateful plane crash in late 1977. God knows what you saw in 1982 :D (never was a fan of the new Skynyrd)

I do. Just never really made the connection to "Alabama". I tend to listen to music for over things than stupid controversy;)

C'mon man, it's like the only contraversy we've got in rock in roll. I'm jealous of gangster rap!

Not the only. I mean, we do have the arguement over who did the Doobie Brothers better, Tom Johnston or Michael McDonald. Or even which was better: Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, or the ones who don't even deserve the connection to the first too...Starship.

Or the even bigger controversy. Why do people mispell LynYrd SkynYrd (the second "y" was capitalized on purpose :p )? :D

Jeezus, Michael McDonald sounds like he has a mouthfull of grits. I didn't think anyone preferred him.

He's good on his own, but the Doobie Brothers were nothing with him. Tom Johnston has him beat anyday.

No doubt about it, hence them not inviting McDonald for the reunion tour in the early 90's. I guess he had a couple of decent solo hits, but he should be shot for that Motown infomertial album he just put out :clown:

He's a great keyboardist. But at the same time, keyboard only mixes well with certain bands. Electric Light Orchestra to name one. Jeff Lynne rocks. :D

The Doobies were too rock though, and the way McDonald brought in the keyboards completely changed the band. "Takin' It To The Streets" vs. "China Grove". Hmmm, what was better? No brainer. Wasn't the McDonald one.

You forgot to mention 10cc :p All keyboards!

I agree, McDonald changed the feel. Took them from a traveling band to a studio band in one keyboard riff.

For some reasons, keyboards seem to give good rock bands their dark era. I mean, look at Chicago. Peter Cetera...well, there's nothing I can say that won't get me booted from this place. Just picture this. An endless stream of asterisks. :p

I knew there was a reason Chicago didn't suck when I saw them. Cetera has been in hiding since the eighties left. :D

Does it not ruin a band though, especially the doobies, when they're named after a Doobie, but yet, they get a keyboardist in there which completely makes them look like some kind of pussy band. Have a doobie, Michael!
