Ok, very wierd synchronicity. In a thread below (the one related to 30 Days of Night) I lamented on the fact that there's been NO news on a Preacher movie in several years. If you're not familiar with Preacher, you ought to be. Its one of the most kick-arse series of all time. I'd about given up reading comics when it came along (with Sandman ending) and I eagerly waited for new Preachers to show up.

The 'movie' has been bandied around alot over the years. Kevin Smith was going to take a whack at it. Rachel Talalay (Tank Girl girl) was supposed to direct. Ben Affleck and James Marsdan were attached at different times for the lead and Cameron Diaz was rumored for Tulip.

Literally 10 minutes after posting my lamentation on this site, the news hit everywhere! Going to be a new series on HBO! Yahooy Doggy Doey!

I'm not sure I'm digging the director/writer combination but Ennis is Exec Producer on it so it will not suck.

This is more for Max and Josh and Layla, who've read the series.

Here's a link to a report from AintItCool from an almost unknown source about a possible Preacher HBO series:

" I don't know good this information is, but I was at a comic convention in Dublin recently where Glenn Fabry was signing. I asked about the Preacher movie and he said that it wouldn't go ahead, that nobody wanted to do it. He then told me that days previous he had gotten a call from somebody from HBO looking for Garth Ennis' phone number. A few hours later he got a call from Garth saying that the producers from The Sopranos want to turn Preacher into a HBO TV series. There was no word on Garth's response to this. If you use this, call me BOMB 2.0."

If this was true, it has the potential to be ****ing AWESOME. The series is so perfect for an HBO long-form series, I can't imagine how good it COULD be. Or how bad.

So, take it with a grain of salt. If it does happen, I can guarantee you it will be one of the most controversial things ever made in the film medium, and will also become insanely popular.

Its just that kinda story.
