View Full Version : I want to put my 2 cents worth on the profanity topic
I can not respond for its a closed thread but I feel the urge to state my opinion. I do not get offended by the use of profanity. We all do it in real life. I am against racest terms used in forums like the "N" word and such.

We don't technically own this forum. We all came here and signed up-- no one was forced.
Make it a clear blanket across the board-- h3//, I can talk shop without "curse" words, or the "N" word---
Makes no diff to me-- live by the rules or don't post--
Easy as that.

One reason this policy is in effect - abuse on the old general discussion forum. If you recall, there was a particular set of threads on Dec 6, 2004 that finally broke the camels back. Every third word was 'F' this and 'F' that.
While selective use of profanity is certainly a part of adult culture, it's often abused by those who fail to appreciate the appropriate time and place. Thus the profanity filter.

For the record, I have no problem with the profanity filter. I love this site and will abide by its rules. It is more the general idea of it that troubles me...there seems to be enlightened debate here, why filter anything? The Nazis decided to filter all info their citizens could obtain by burning books. Obviously not the same thing, but if not in the same phylum, certainly in same species. Too bad that an individual filter does not exist, where each member could choose for themselves. Kind of like an "ignore" feature in a chat room.

1) I'm not bothered about profanity, I swear quite often myself. If only we could choose ourselves, so some could censor while others could swear freely - but I guess that's up to VBB...
2) What happened on December 6th 2004 over on GDLoom? I miss everything...

That's "Racist" ... and more topics about the pro's and con's of already implemented fcuk filters are redundant.
