But they will... people only used them to build up their ranks (I was among them for a little while a few months back) but now the staff have removed postcounts in the Lounge, the members don't wanna know anymore, LOL. Just goes to show how bad the spamming had become as of late so it finally made them do something about it.

So, now The Lounge is a 'junk' forum, what's the point of even having it there?

Sorry Cornish I have to stop spending time with 19-22 year olds...

audi 5-thousi ...i'm out
funzo ...sooo much fun
riddick ...ridiculous

uhm... I think that just about covers it...

The word games were kinda circular because I noticed every so often we touch on the same words over and over but still... they were entertaining none-the-less...

Caltech University in Pasadena... if you ever have a chance to visit it without a doubt it has one of the most beautiful university campuses i've ever been on. It was home to many of the intelligent elite of the country including Einstein. The place is teeming with the most brilliant minds but they speak in a language i'm unable to understand. They start talking proteins and particles and lasers and my mind starts fading out... and eventually I lose interest...

hence my original post....

i like science and all of dat, but man...all of the talk goes way over my 'ead

now, if we were talking about say....
cooking, i have a vague idea how to do that (yes ladies a cooking man, don't all flock to me at once)

MissJacksonCA
10-Jul-2007, 04:48 AM
yeah i'm in awe of any man who can cook... not re-heat... not burn... but cook... I mean come on how fleepin hard is it to cook?

mista_mo
10-Jul-2007, 05:33 AM
depends.....

I rememer i never used to be able to operate an oven, now i can cook my own din dins and such....it's not hard when you do it enough..and take a class in school...

I specialize in cooking brownies....and bbq hamburgs...

MissJacksonCA
10-Jul-2007, 05:38 AM
back in my day cooking class in school was virtually useless... of course i took it in junior high because once i got into high school i was too career oriented to waste precious credits on crap like cookies... but yah our cooking teacher almost never taught us how to cook anything useful... i remember making peanut butter cookies, pasta, and mock pizza... I say mock pizza because we bought pizza dough at the store and put on canned sauce and presliced prepacked toppings... it was for all intents and purposes useless...

my mom could never cook... i mean she'd start cooking but she'd drink the whole time and either wreck whatever she was cooking entirely or pass out and fall down before finishing and it would burn...

my dad almost always cooked the same thing... ceasar salad... grilled chicken... grilled swordfish... steak... that was it. I remember he made the best scrambled eggs i've ever had but yeah... he never really taught me to cook...

on my own i'm a pretty mad chef... i can do it if i have directions but frankly cooking for one is like as stupid as owning a minivan and not being married or having kids...

mista_mo
10-Jul-2007, 05:41 AM
i cook for myself...does that mean i am dumb...your logic makes me sad...

I found our cooking class useful...we got to work in the school cafe (i would not however, call them chefs..they deep fried stuf ooo, ahhh) but workign in the actual class was the best part of the whole deal...we had to make a 3 course dinner for a friend as our final assesment...i got an 87 in the course....
hoorah.

My mom and dad have always been cooking people...i was shocked to learn my dad can cook.

MissJacksonCA
10-Jul-2007, 05:44 AM
dont get me wrong... there was a time when my parents were married and my mom was a five star chef... but I was too young to see those days I got to remember them briefly through pictures but our house burned down and so did any pleasant memory photos...

I was entirely shocked my dad could cook when my parents divorced because he never once stepped foot into the kitchen ever when my rents were married. If he wanted a scotch and soda my mom brought it to him. If he was hungry she brought him whatever. I dont think he knew how to cook the whole time though because when they separated most of our dinners at dads consisted of eating out or take out. When he remarried was when he really began to cook... and it was good!

mista_mo
10-Jul-2007, 05:48 AM
I guess it's true that if you want a man to cook....you need to be a women and show him how to do it...

oh God, that came out so wrong...

MissJacksonCA
10-Jul-2007, 06:03 AM
it may have come out wrong but its kinda true... a man who cooks is definately a must-have ... my boyfriend and his bro cook and its awesome lol i feel soooo lucky

mista_mo
10-Jul-2007, 06:08 AM
i din't need to tell ya of the stereotypical veiw of women and men....basically, a man that can actually cook is a rather oddity..

MissJacksonCA
10-Jul-2007, 06:12 AM
Actually come to think of it... almost every man i've ever been involved with has been a better cook than me. Except one! wow... now thats crazy!

mista_mo
10-Jul-2007, 06:14 AM
tht is a little weird..usually a meet a guy who has no idea wtf he is doing in da kitchen..

MissJacksonCA
10-Jul-2007, 06:19 AM
it is but i meet the people i like in a most unusual way... i met one of them through his mother after she stopped me on the street and said i was pretty and she'd seen me about and we got to talking and she intro'd me to her son who was quite awesome... another guy i met after i oogled his car he thought i was nifty... and the best one of all i met while registering for a marathon...

people i meet and get to know through more conventional means either by school or work are typically less than stellar in the kitchen and just in general so i try to make it a habit to meet people other ways

mista_mo
10-Jul-2007, 06:22 AM
hmm, maybe i shall try to look for someone in dat way...i usually meet someoen thru a friend or school...no wait..friend....

MissJacksonCA
10-Jul-2007, 06:31 AM
no it was too awkward for me because he cheated on me and then did the whole 'i think we both know this isn't working out but lets be friends' crap... she's nice and i buy her flowers for her birthday still but its just too awkward to actually talk with her

mista_mo
10-Jul-2007, 06:34 AM

But they will... people only used them to build up their ranks (I was among them for a little while a few months back) but now the staff have removed postcounts in the Lounge,
I was wondering howe some people got their post counts up so high. I think the staff should either retroactively take away those posts from the point count, or give an approximate amount to long time members who did not participate in the word games.

Why does it even matter? I never really participated in this forum, having pretty much guessed how people would use it and not wanting to be in a conversation with someone who was more interested in bumping their post count that actual communication, but it just seems clear to me that post counts don't matter.

No, no. This isn't one of those, it may not matter to you, but it matters to me sorts of things, they're really unimportant in the grand scheme of things. In fact, they just add to a competitive and hierarchical air in the forums and I don't think these forums need things that help generate conflict, as there is always a ton already (witness the comparatively large number of long time posters who have been perma-banned). Then again, meh, whatever...

It would be interesting to find out just how far some people would drop if none of the posts in this area counted including all the old ones before the change, me included

I have to admit I was trying to get to 1,000 in a week by only posting in 5 word game threads just cos it was gonna be a challenge, that got knocked on the head though obviously.

I have never bothered about postcount though if I was I would have thousands of posts in another forum I visit since I have been posting this time round for 3 1/2 years yet I only have about 600 :)

The junk forums were there for everyone to abuse, so to give long-time members an additional 1000 posts for not capitalising on a post boosting opportunity is a bit of a joke. It's like saying, "here you go, they spammed, here's a lollypop". If they were to remove my 'junk' posts, it would only go down by a thousand or so, which basically means I'd still be ZFE anyway. Some folks would probably lose their entire postcount!

Ah, ZFE, now Philly, that's the real reason why folks have been spamming recently. It used to be 8000 (and only gives out basic powers, which is a bit of a joke - you probably already have these powers being the Arcade Master) but now it's 5000, so this has seen an onslaught of folks desperate to change their name above their avatar (the only power worthy of awarding in the entire deal - however, 5000 is still way too much), hence no postcounts in The Lounge. I suggest the rankings should be NAME only, with no reward, just like I have done with my forum. Give out the powers at 1000, all ranks after that are just ranks and nothing else.

MissJacksonCA
11-Jul-2007, 06:52 PM
well now whats spamming? I mean I figured that was the stuff I get in my email inbox that I didn't sign up for ... but is it instead the carrying on of a conversation via the message boards and going off topic? because i'm going to have to plead ignorance on that one if thats the case

I just used 'spamming' because it was an easy word to grab at the time, although I'm sure the term may not apply in it's fullest here. But here's the Rules/FAQ version:

* Repetitive posts: Member's deliberately posting the same/similar content multiple times in the same thread, or multiple threads.
* Nonsense posts: Posts/Threads that do not make any readable sense or do not have a point to them.
Short posts: Repetitive posting that generally adds nothing to the discussion at hand (one word or short posts, just smilies* and no words etc.) unless the topic specifies/forgives it.
* Off-topic posts: If the thread starter specifically asks for their thread not to go off topic, please respect their request.
* SpamBot posts: These are online bots which automatically register an account to specifically post spam (e.g. selling mobile phones). If you notice one of these posts, and it hasn’t been spotted/dealt with yet, please inform a moderator/administrator.
* Trolling: A troll is often someone who comes to an established community to specifically post inflammatory, rude, repetitive or offensive messages with the intention of antagonising forum members. Another example of trolling behaviour is ‘hit & run’ copy & paste posts. When a troll is identified they will be contacted to desist, if they refuse and persist threads will be closed/posts deleted and they will most likely be banned.
I'm guessing the highlighted sentence is the closest to the original context. I would defintely class word games as spam - it may get people acquainted to begin with but there's no denying the power of a three hour word game session - but to warn a member or close the thread for spamming in a spam forum (I was warned once about spamming in the word games, and believe me, I posted waaay less than most who frequent it now) is kind of silly.

The ultimate sin of course is thread/forum hijack. :dead:

If they deleted this area and all the posts it contains I think that you will find you would actually lose more like about 2,000 posts which would take you below ZFE status all be it only just below ;)

You are right though that some of us would lose almost our entire postcount for me it would be 572 of my 640 posts

The original idea of the lounge was that its a relaxed forum where aslong as its not blatently offensive, pure nonsense, off the intended point of the topic or advertising, we can allow it to go.. basically where members can post things like jokes, wordgames, happy birthday topics etc.. and for other members who do not wish to read those topics it keeps them out of general discussion and out of the way :)

Now i agree that it was mismanaged at first, but now that we have stopped posts being included in counts here, we feel like we can relax the atmosphere like it was originally intended, if you get what i mean.. now you can post in word assiocation or three word story all day if you really want to and not get a warning.

Sort of like the shoutbox but in the form of a forum, with topics and such.
