    Kurt Russell Star Wars audition

[I was] interviewing for the part of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. On tape, it exists. I didn't have any idea what I was talking about. Something about a Death Star and a Millennium Falcon. I was actually pretty [close], in the final running, but I needed to give an answer to ABC to do a western show. I asked George, 'Do you think you're gonna use me?' He said, 'I don't know if I want to put you with him, or those two guys together.' I got to go to work, so I did the western. Clearly, made the right choice.

Interesting to see how a classic could have looked and felt different. I believe they show more of these auditions on the fantastic "Empire of Dreams" documentary available on the original trilogy Blu Ray and DVD sets, as well.

Yeh, I love Kurt and all, but Star Wars would have sucked if he was Han Solo.

BTW, I also heard William Katt (The Greatest American Hero) and Jodie Foster were up for the roles of Luke and Leia.

    I just cannot imagine.

I guess it was still possible. She was mature for her age and all. Just seems quite a bit younger than the age we did get with Carrie Fisher.

Nope. Apparently she was Lucas' second choice.

Both Lucas and Brian De Palma were auditioning at the same time. I think De Palma wanted Foster for 'Carrie' and while there she had a go for Princess Leia too. Sissy Spacek also went for Leia as well, while she was there for a 'Carrie' audition.
