    Review: Midnight Meat Train

Hi all...caught MMT the other day and thought I'd share some thoughts about it.

First of all, I read the short story years ago in Clive Barker's The Books of Blood. I didn't remember much about it, but honestly, its not that complicated a story. It IS more than just a simple serial killer flick and the horror is Grand Guignol all the way, over the top, on the skids, nothing left to the imagination.

Honestly, the director did a good job overall. I think the script could have used punching up, and maybe take the gore factor back a notch or two (its almost too much, distracting from the story). The acting was good, except for Roger Bart (Desperate Housewives on TV, Young Frankenstein on the NY floorboards) who REALLY looked like he wanted to be elsewhere. Bradley Cooper (Kitchen Confidential/Nip Tuck/Alias) does a fine job. He is upstaged by Leslie Bibb (Crossing Jordan) who keeps reminding me of Anya on Buffy, but nekkid. I saw the ending coming (surprise!) from about the halfway mark, but I'm not sure if that's because it was made plain or because I read the story years ago.

Its worth seeing (particularly if free). I understand Barker's been fighting for distribution. Its probably a hard sell. The flick comes by its R rating honestly, earning it in grotesquery. I'm pretty sure I'm in the demographic for the movie, but I wouldn't have paid to see it in a movie theater, and I'm not sure I know anyone who would have.

Thanks, Geo. I hadn't previously heard of this project and will have to make an effort to look into it a bit more thoroughly. The title sounds like a porno, btw

It got a small release this past summer, it was playing here in the Detroit area at a few theaters, but I never got a chance to see it. Thanks for the review, I have been wondering what people thought of it.
