    Van Halen Poll

Hot on the heels of the Iron Maiden post...

Which Van Halen do you prefer?

    David Lee Roth

    Sammy Hagar

Gary (haha, shit, cough, ahem...hah) Cherone

Personally, I love both Roth and Hagar for different reasons. I don't think Van Halen is really Van Halen apart from David Lee Roth. I do dig the "Van Hagar" work though. I always did dig Sammy "The Red Rocker" Hagar, but, for me at least, I'll always think of David Lee Roth (as arrogant of an ass as he is) pulling some martial arts on stage and pounding it out to some amazing riffs...

As far as Gary Cherone, I'll try not to go into the embarrassment known as "Van Halen 3". I will say that I think Cherone is a good vocalist, but he's about as wrong in Van Halen as David Coverdale would be as a replacement for Robert Plant in a putting together of Led Zeppelin.

I'd put a video from each era on here, but I can't figure out how to make the damn Youtube video thing work here...

    What are your thoughts?

Hagar got such a raw deal for keeping an otherwise past its expiration date product on the shelf and fresh enough to make some money and still get a little recognition.[COLOR="Silver"]

I am not a big fan in general of bands keeping the same name when members leave, especially integral members, such as the lead singer. Dont get me wrong, I liked Sammy Hagar before he joined VH, and I did enjoy a lot of the "Van Hagar" stuff, however, it was a bastardizing to keep the name Van Halen without DLR. Therefore, I voted for DLR. And I think that VH with DLR totally kicked ass.

Roth all the way, however I do enjoy one song they did with Hagar. Human's Being from the TWISTER Soundtrack.

Is it really a bastardizing of the name when two of the members of the band (Alex and Eddie) both share the last name Van Halen? I can understand if they were called "The Roth Rockers" or something like that completely, but the name comes from them and the band is still part of them. I agree about it not being the same at all, but they're still the same Van Halen brothers...

Sammy. Based on most songs that I enjoy coming from that incarnation; I see no reason to use any other criteria. The point is to enjoy listening.
