If they are successful and do get thing thin classified as a mental disorder the gov't definitely will have an excuse to more tightly regulate the video game industry. There will now be a legitimate state purpose, which in america is a pre-requisite for gov't interference in private industry, and they will be able to ban games much like they do certain drugs that they deem to hazardous to you health.

In that case, Americaland should take a leaf out of the UK's book in terms of the BBFC which is a completely independent entity, no gubment interferance nor industry interferance, which is a perfect butt-buddy () for their mature sense of mind ... although the Manhunt 2 thing is a bit silly I have to say... But videogames the cause of a mental illness? More like excessive play is a product of larger/wider problems...at least in the majority I'd say.

Basically in the UK, if you wanna sell a movie/tv show or a game it must be rated (although games can also be rated by ELSPA/ESRB and apply, but it's often BBFC only/as well). The BBFC is independent, so it works freely, but obviously it was set up with an aim. Back in the day (famously in the 1980s with the incorporation of the Video Recordings Act legislation) they used to be really dickish, but then in 1999 the bloke who was in charge retired and a new bloke came in and relaxed basically everything left and right (who has also left recently). They're a pretty decent entity now, rather laid back. The only thing they're rather ancy about is sexual violence (porn is a whole other ball game, I duno what they like and dislike with porn). However, some films like Baise Moi and Irreversible have gotten through either uncut or with minor cuts...oddly enough, Baise Moi had a sliver taken out showing sexual violence against a man...interesting. Anyway, they're pretty laid back and have an open appeals process, they work with the people submitting work, they're open about what they do, who does it and so on, they frequently give interviews and so on, so they're basically the polar opposite to the MPAA. But in order to sell a movie or a game or whatever, it must be rated. Annoyingly we don't have that "unrated" idea, that you guys have, over here. What is "unrated", ironically, gets rated (but not cut). So - for example - Hills Have Eyes 2006 Unrated is rated 18 uncut in the UK. Some things are exempt from classification though, some documentaries or sports things or training videos ... for instance, "Long Way Round" (utterly brilliant - Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman go round the world on motorbikes - absolutely superb show, check it out)...anyway, it's rated "E" for Exempt, yet it features a fair bit of swearing, but nothing else like sex or violence or drugs...

So if they're pretty laid back, what's their agenda behind banning this game? I wish that we knew what was so crazy about this game that they're making all this fuss. Sadly that info. has yet to be leaked. Maybe once it is we'll all say banning it was the right thing to do, but i doubt it.

The BBFC did release a statement, but I was too lazy to read it. The first Manhunt was a point of contension perhaps but was passed, but who knows, Manhunt 2 might go through on appeal...although as Rockstar have withdrawn it, that's unlikely for now, lol.

well whatever they're going to do they'd better do it quick. The game is due to be released on july 9th. So it's either alter the content or win the appeal. the appeals process will almost definitely push the game back though. it's worth it if they believe in their vision for the game.

It's not being released on 9th July, it's been post-poned. No idea when it's gonna be released, not idea what they're going to do with it yet either...somehow it'll come out though...

I remember seeing that trailer before, and indeed, completely biased and based on a bunch of twitterers who blatantly don't play videogames. They say "first person shooter" and then show footage of a THIRD person shooter. Typically bollocks, "oh it's so life-like", yeah it looks good, but it's blatantly not real-life, it's a bit like real life visually, but it looks more like I duno, a freakin' VIDEOGAME to me! they keep coming back to nutters like the cloumbine guys with this who if memory serves says the childs play films amde them do it not halo and if if it did, there are millions of us gmaers so two people out of a population that large going ape **** is not gameings fault, its not getting enougha ttention from there parents or some other screwed up mental ****. The Columbine killers were influenced by The Matrix and Doom according to the tabloids and JT and other wankers. "Child's Play 3" 'influenced' the Bulger killers in 1993 here in the UK, although that was never proven and I don't think they'd even seen the film ... and even if they had, it's so freaking tame...and where in CP3 does Chucky shove a battery up someone's arse or drip paint into someone's eyes or bisects them on railway lines? Games don't make people kill, they flat out don't. If they did, there's be at least thousands of cases of people going Postal, but there aren't. There's the odd, insanely-covered, shoot out that would have happened anyway. That V-Tech Cho bloke...absolute nutter all on his own, a social reject who had a problem with apparent "rich kids" and capitalism, aka, pathetic loser billy-no-mates. The Columbine guys - social outcasts once again, bullied and castigated by their peers, so they sought revenge. I'd question how they were so able to acquire an arsenal, rather than if they played Doom. Trench coats? They might look cool, but they're ideal for hiding weapons under, you don't need The Matrix to tell you that. The vast majority of the human race knows right from wrong and reality from fiction, there's about 1 in a million who don't, but that 1 in a million would crack regardless of what they were watching. Like I said before, at most, some nutter playing Manhunt or watching some horror movie mate leave them sated for a while and delay the inevitable, meaning that as they delayed their killing spree that they would have done anyway, perhaps they end up killing less people than they might have done if they hadn't been delayed. Society can't censor the entire planet just because there might be some nutter out there who'd go postal regardless. These anti-game nutters really have absolutely no idea do they? It's the video nasties all over again, videogame nasties...

It all boils down to free will and personal acountability. If we're going to say a game made someone do it then it means we really don't have descision making capabilities., which is total garbage. All the information is out there bombarding us through the media on a daily basis. What we choose to do with it is up to us.
