Long before identity theft became popular, this was a well known trick among foreign nationals trying to infiltrate the US.

Beware the beast, man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him, drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death.

    It's a shame,
I've always thought that non-criminals and people with no outstanding obligations of a tangible nature (Ie: Order to pay child support, Judgment Vs them from a civil suit, excessive debt etc.) should have the right to reinvent themselves as this man did.

Changing one's name legally is a joke, and does nothing to put distance between an individual and their old life, because of the very visible red tape they have to go through that's like a scarlet letter around their neck.

Yes, taking the name of someone who died under particular tragic, criminal circumstances IS an insult IMHO, and the only thing he actually did wrong, again IMO. Wish he'd chosen to take the SSN from a crib-death victim, or other child who died from "natural" causes instead of dredging up a very painful time in the lives of innocent people who've already suffered enough due to the depravity of a sorry excuse for a human being.

Other than that, as far as this particular situation goes I feel that criminal prosecution for what he did is extremely excessive. At worst he should be flagged as a foreign national and MAYBE deported.

Its easy to see why he wanted a fresh start. His parents have HIGH EXPECTATION written all over them. Doitchin obviously didn't want to continue slogging through the academic hurdles he was jumping through. The man DID become a productive, otherwise law-abiding member of society.

We have real problems to worry about as a society. This ISN'T one of them!
