Well! Now a BBC 'Day of the Triffids' remake...

Don't quite know how they think they'll improve on the 1980s versions!

Prepare for a pretty politically correct cross section of survivors
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. You know, I think this might turn out okay. It's a classic story and easy to modernise, even the 1981 series was a rehash of a 1962 film. I really liked that series btw.

I wasn't aware there was a remake in the 80's.

I know the story and have read articles all about it, but have yet to see any of the actual films. The premise always sounded cool and obviously was somewhat of a genre landmark, but the particulars of the story seemed a bit...off to me.

Did anyone see it here who did not grown up with the film(s) and likes them?

Indeed. A genuine classic from the good old days when the BBC made world class drama, and not PC propaganda films...

Oblivion gallops closer, favoring the spur, sparing the rein - I think we will be gone soon

Thanks for the link, Legion! Now I know what to look for. I'm sure I can get a region compliant dvd copy in the states and give it a shot.

Your welcome. I just checked amazon US, R1 version - $14.99 - you could probably find a 2nd hand copy for less on ebay.

Don't expect to be blown away with special effects or anything though, it's just a really good story (IMO).
