    Age limit for cartoons?

I think this is the right place to post this, right? Anyway, earlier today I was watching "Yuyu Hakusho" one of my favorite animes, and overall cartoons of all time. Well, my mom caught me watching it you see.....and then proceeded to tell me why did I still watched this as she called it "kids' stuff". And then told to stopping watching them, and to start watching more mature things, and other stuff.

So, that got me thinking. Is there an age limit to watching animation?

Do you think people should stop watching cartoons when they become a certain age?

well anime is pretty different to western cartoons, hell most of them are not something i would recommend someone below their late teens watch. i mean the average subject matter can be violence, murder, even sex. Thats not exactly spongebob.

though for the record when it comes to western cartoons i still love adventure time.

I don't like anime, but I don't think there is any age limit on cartoons. I still watch a wide variety of cartoons, both with my kid and alone. Pretty much anything on Adult Swim, Spongebob, Ren & Stimpy, the old Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Batman TAS,.....the list could go on and on. I've never understood why some people think you have to be a kid to enjoy cartoons. They're entertainment just like any regular TV show, jut often more interesting.

Not a cartoon, but I remember my father once telling me that Mystery Science Theater 3000 was childish. I just said "you don't have to watch it" and still enjoy it to this day.

Just to be clear I wasn't talking about anime only, but cartoons in general. And I agree Bass it's entertainment, but unfortunately many adults don't ss it that way.

I use my kids as an excuse to watch Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Young Justice all the time. Thanks to this, my four year old is addicted to Iron Man and Captain America, to the point that all of his birthday presents were Avengers themed. This included an oil painting that Alex Ross did for Captain America #600 (a poster of it, not the actual painting, obviously; the kid is four). In addition to these, I also enjoy King of the Hill, American Dad, Family Guy, and the very occasional Cleveland Show. Sitting on my DVD rack is the complete collections of Batman: The Animated Series, The Batman, and Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, along with a number of other animated movies such as Green Lantern: First Flight and Batman: Gotham Knights.

So, no, I don't consider there to be an age limit on cartoons.

not my thing, adventure times chill hipster douchebaggey bullshit is more up my alley it seems.

honesty animation is a medium, you cant be too old for that, certain subject matter though yeah sure. its why i'llwatch an animated film about a woman in a cyborg body acting as the leader of a unit of tokyo cyber crime police but not my little pony.

There's a lot of depth and lore in My Little Pony.

I was shocked as hell when the purple pony with the pink tail turned out to be a Cylon and assassinated the farmer's daughter.

Tell me that you wouldn't rather see that than the new Wonder Woman show.

Whatever the age is to stop watching animation, I guess I haven't reached it yet. =D

I dont think theres an age where you should have to stop doing anything other than wetting the bed, I hate people who are in a massive rush to become "grown up" which usually reads as "boring"! They stop having nights out before they're 25, they dont do anything fun, they saddle themselves with huge mortgages & kids at a young age, they stop wearing anything remotely fashionable, and they sneer at anyone who is the same age as them but still enjoys a laugh, or doing things that they perceive as immature (such as me with my paintballing). Thats not aimed at your mum by the way Doc, just people in general who think life is all about becoming as boring as you can as quickly as you can...

Animation is no different to any other kind of cinema, it's moving images on a screen. Just because children enjoy the fast pace and bright colours of cartoons doesn't mean that ONLY children should like them. That's like saying only adults can watch live action movies. Don't make me draw her a Venn Diagram, doggone it!

That's not to say there aren't lots of basement-dwelling manchildren who fritter their adult lives away watching anime like desperate, confused adolescents. That's probably what she's afraid of. You should probably explain to her that that's not what you are, and that the "cartoons" you watch are aimed at adults, and are only animated as an artistic choice because it allows them to do more with the budget.
