    Most frightening film

What does everyone think is the most frightening film made? Insidious did make me jump a few times and that's hard to do.

Ive never really been frightened by a movie, i was reared on horror films as a child.

One film that did scare the crap out of me, as a kid, was the original terminator movie. The bit when they blow up the truck and they think they've killed it, they cuddle and the gentle music is playing.. then it rises out of the fire as just the robot endoskeleton and sarahs face when she looks at it, i had nightmares about that for weeks when i first saw it.

By this time id already seen the dead trilogy, halloween, nightmare on elm street, childs plays.. like i said i saw alot of horror movies as a kid, none of it bothered me but that bit of the terminator really did for some reason.

There isn't one. fear is subjective and deeply personal. Some find clowns terrifying, others dogs. For them IT and Cujo could be the scariest films. but another persons fear is anothers comedy. Theres no completely universal scary film above all others. best universal expression of audience involvement across the largest number of a primary target audience could probably be gore induced revulsion but thats about it.

Danny... he said 'think'. As in, your personal opinion. As in, shut up, because we all know there's no universal scary, m'kay? Thanks.
I'm gonna say... the end of Poltergeist. Sure.

Poltergeist still creeps me out to this day. Love it. I can still vividly remember some of the nightmares it gave me as a kid.

Can't think of any other horror movie that still genuinely creates psychological fear for me.

Drag Me To Hell scared the bejesus out of me - sure it was a lot of sudden noises and jump scares - but if worked well as a sort of 'haunted ghost house ride'.

The Thing frightens me, even just thinking about the movie gives me chills, because when I ponder 'what if I was in that situation' it really is a frightening prospect.

The Descent is another one - claustrophobic, plays with audience expectations of when a scare is going to come (there's one moment in particular that illustrates that perfectly), and well, I watched a CAM version of it on my computer at the time in 2005 in the middle of a summer's day with the room filled by light, and it freaked me out. Watching it again on DVD that Christmas proved that the scares weren't lessened ... The Descent 2 is mostly forgettable and pointless, mind you, but then it wasn't done by Neil Marshall, so...

It's only frightening if you're not at the front.

I was being a jokester. But admit it, if you had a choice, wouldn't you much rather be in the front of that dastardly train? Yeah you got someone's piehole stitched to your brown eye, but at least you're not eating other peoples' poo.

Nah, Alien is little and cute. It's scarier when you're older.
The Exorcist bored me the first time I watched it, then I rewatched it and realized how great it was.

Wait....are you guys talking about the same Alien? Because if it's the same movie i'm thinking of, little and cute are the last words that could possibly be used to describe it.

Further proof that bassman is not four years old.
