Ohhhh... That sounds OK then... Sold off an 8, and not a choice in the world about it, or indeed her future... Nice...

That's the only logic I could come up with. *L*

Guess I'd best chime in with requisite disgust, lest people take my silence as consent.

But really, it (unfortunately) is no surprise when it comes to the Saudis.

It;s their way. Remember that the next time you want to think people are the same all over.

This may be a painfully naiive question, but is it considered normal for these old dudes to actually have sex with their child wives, or wait for them to mature first?

I'm not saying that the latter case would make it "okay" by any stretch, I'm just wondering.

Would any of us be surprised if she's 'seen to' well before any age of consent in a western country...

Yeah, the whole "they wait until the girls are older to consummate the marriage" is pretty much an apologist take without any evidence to suggest that a different definition of marriage is in play.

Look at the different in attitude - A 15yr old girl goes off consensually with (yet alone being sold to) a 49yr old man... and... strangely someone cares...

what a difference in perspective huh? actually nice to read a story about someone who cares about their kids and is interested in protecting them from someone who seems to clearly be a pedophile. if i read that article right, he was already out on bail for sexually assaulting a 16 year old. fucking sick world we have to deal with sometimes isn't it?

back to this saudi thing: the one thing i am glad we haven't had to listen to (at least on this forum) is the whining of cultural relativists. "oh don't be so ethnocentric", "this is just their culture, why can't you be more tolerant." that sort of bullshit. cultural relativism makes me physically ill in a lot of ways. some things are simply wrong. period. rape, murder, forced physical mutilation, the use of children as sexual objects or the arranged marriages of minors to people old enough to be their grandparent (esp. as payment of a debt - that part of this story really got to me) , are all morally reprehensible and indefensible, no matter what kind of cultural tradition bullshit you are spouting off.

One wonders if they can ever be saved from their institutionalized depravity.
I highly doubt it. They were probably behind 9/11 anyway. Just wipe them out and take the oil. Anyone who helps gets a share.

According to the Islamic calender it's only the year 1430. Figures. Keep that backwards mentality going.

wow. so, genocide is the answer for anyone who we happen to have a problem with. granted, i find saudi culture backwards and degenerate but wholesale murder of an entire people just to get our hands on oil is one of the most idiotic things i've read on here in quite a bit. great answer to the problem, you are undoubtedly one of the world's great thinkers.

you must be a real laugh a parties.

I try not to get too high on myself to be honest, my country is pretty backward & so is America in a lot of ways.

I mean consider this, the UAE will soon have the world's first eco city, whereas we haven't even drawn up plans. Iran's clergy and government have condoned & accepted transsexuals. They invented batteries, sausages & introduced the west to Aristotle, and are weeks away from finishing the tallest structure ever assembled by man.

Meanwhile in Britain & America, fetish porn is banned, stem cell research is having trouble finding supporters, politicians & councils get stupid paid while neglected babies die, etc

You don't catch Arab countries invading western ones for absolutely no reason either Iraq has now gone on longer than WW2 & has a much higher civilian body count than 9/11 - we are SO civilised it hurts, especially if you're Iraqi!

Yep there are many & more ways in which UAE & middle eastern countries are more atavistic, but let's not lick our own arses raw here, we are brutal & backward in many ways too
