Question Can anyone recommend a stage prop designer?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this in, but I thought maybe some of you who make films and such might be able to help!

Do you make props for stage shows?
Do you know someone who can?

If so I would like to hear from you!

I would like a couple of very simple props made for my burlesque shows. They would be approximately 1 - 1.5 m in size and need to be:

    * solid enough for me to sit on
    * tough enough to survive several shows and potentially having water poured over them
    * collapsible so I can easily transport them without needing to hire a van and team of log-rollers

Please leave a reply here if you know anyone Thanks!

Well, what are you looking to build?

    Specificly.

    A collapsible, water-resistant seat?

    Please tell me more.

Prop building is a forte of our little puppet collective.

Only problem, I'm in the States, and you don't seem tp be.

(I can tell 'cause you used metrics)
    Those aren't real problems, Sam.

Plus, I have a British flag under my avatar

I'm guessing that the shipping would make ordering large items from the States prohibitively expensive?

Ha. Someone should, they'd make money. I'm looking for a collapsible giant witch's cauldron though

ever seen those collapsible camping cups?, think various separate sections that gain then lessen in width that can be lowered onto each other to form a flat circle.

Yes, the cauldron bit would just be a shell that could come in separate bits and would not need to be waterproof.

EDIT: Well, they'd have to not disintegrate if they got wet. But the fully assembled cauldron would not need to be able to hold water.

I am not a filmmaker nor a propmaker but I have an idea.
what about those wooden rings they use for bushel baskets? They would be expandable to the lengths you want and collapsable?
As for how they would go together I am not sure how you would do that part but, you would be able to use black material of some kind to hide the rings that you could dry out after each performance. Oh yeah for the bottom of it use the bottom of the bushel basket.
I hope this helps and I hope my explaination was clear?

I'm not sure what a bushel basket is but I'll check it out, thanks!

I'm actually temporarily abandoning the cauldron idea as it was going to be for a Halloween-themed show, but I've just remembered I'm not even going to be here over Halloween so there's not much point!

Have had a few people offer to make the giftbox though, will see how much £££ they want!

when you really put your mind to it making props is quite a fun thing. i saw something mentioned about a cauldron but now real specific examples. i have a propmaking handbook, and have some knowledge in it. if i knew more perhaps i could make some suggestions.

Try Elstree Props over at Elstree studios.

I dealt with them before when they were owned by the Harrison family (just recently sold it to someone new). Harrisons also ran Norank Engineering which worked on Star Wars/The Shining/etc. Good people and prices.

I don't know who owns it now.

Thanks for all the advice guys

The cauldron idea is being postponed since it was going to be for a Halloween show but I'm not even going to be here over Halloween (duh!) and the other prop I wanted is so simple I should be fine just getting a regular carpenter to make it
