    Reign Of The Dead

I just recently started reading this book for the first time in about 2 years. I gave it enough time so I forgot most stuff and everything seems fresh, for the most part.

What I forgot was how this book is written... I don't want to say poorly because that's not true... ummm it seems like it's written so people at pretty much any age can pick this up and read it. Get what I'm saying? Some of the sentences seem like they're dumbed down so that an 9 or 10 year old could read this. Maybe it's just the writters style? Maybe I'm just being too pretentious because I've been reading nothing but Robin Cook and Stephen King lately? Or perhaps Len Bernhart wrote it this way to keep it reading fast.

    What do you guys think?

Didnt read it, but Ste[hen KIng often gets the critisism that his language is unartful and written on the level that a subtard could understand.
I don't agree. I love the Stand. The extended Stand is one of mt favorite books ever. His "On Writing" is really excellent/ I have the audio version. Its really good.

I've got Reign of the Dead (a signed copy too) as well as the follow-up. Don't have the 3rd book though. I enjoyed the two I've read though, yeah I guess I see what you mean by the more open-to-all nature of the writing, but it wasn't a draw back for me - to be honest I didn't really notice or pay attention to the writing style until today when I read this thread.

The first two books were quite enjoyable, I liked them. Will have to get the third book sometime.

i too have the first 2 volumes of this book. i found them to be a great read. i even had one of my nurses read both of them & she found them entertaining as well.

they need to make one of these, if not both, into a movie of some sorts. i think, if done right, it could be really great. they have a comic series that follows the first book also, but i'm a lil behind on those.

just got the stand today, sounds good, cant beat a bit o' post apocalyptic fiction....well maybe if it was porn but thats beside the point, i wasnt to keen on reign of the dead, though afair few people on this forum know my favourite zombie novels are the autumn series, cus im allways blathering on about em in zombie book threads.

I have the first two in Len's series. I only ended up halfway through the 2nd one, but I loved everything to that point. As for Len's language and writing style, my take would be that he's a bit less poetic in comparison to someone like Stephen King. In the same way George Romero is a to-the-point and no fluff kind of filmmaker, I think Len fits into a similar category concerning his writing. IMO, I think this might be truer than describing his language as "dumbed down."

Read the first one, overall enjoyable but I felt something was missing?

    I don't know.

Hoping to get the second one soon. Third isn't published yet, but it's the origins prequel.
