    Theoretical question

What would it take for a zombie movie to win an oscar??? I mean, what would the story have to be, who would direct it etc.

A huge budget, major A list actors, and a well known Hollywood director.

Despite the awesomeness of zombie films,i doubt they would ever get an oscar, purely because they are zombie films!(we know some are better than most oscar nominated films anyway )
I think they only way it would happen is if there were to be a real life zombie outbreak, and a film was made about it later

When was the last time a horro film got best picture. Has that EVER happened?

Maybe sound or effects, but I doubt any actor or director from horror film is going to get one. Genre pictures rarely do.

    Thumbs down

i think a documentary on "shaving your nuts" would win an oscar b4 any zombie film!

not that i wouldn't want to see that, but then the genre would turn into main stream crap!

"just like what they did to the punk rock style"!!!

Well, it would have to be a zombie film that actually didn't have zombies in it. In fact, it wouldn't be about zombies at all. And actually, it would not even have a hint or mention of the dead, death or anything remotely close to the subject.

And maybe directed by Oliver Stone.

But in all seriousness, <what everyone else said>. I think, in a perfect situation, World War Z done as an epic could have a chance.

It is hard for me to imagine a scenario that would allow an Oscar for a zombie film. The academy gets it wrong all of the time anyway. I mean, Denzell did not win for "Malcolm X", and how could there have been an easier choice?
