I simply don't get this 'constantly crashing' thing levelled at Firefox, after getting a new rig to surf on I've had no problems whatsoever with FF, because before - like I said previously - the problem was really my laptop's penchant for crashing, freezing and blue screening.

And then on my folks' old rig it would freeze all the time when surfing, but FF was never affected (so I never had to start a new profile on it).

I'm running version 2 I think ... *checks* ... actually no, I'm running 3! Forgot I updated it ... but nope, I've had piss all problems with it.

I duno what you lot are using it for, no doubt shady dungeon porn , but FF rocks.

When you get tons of crashing and other issues you have spyware and registry entries screwing with your OS, time to format that hDD, and start over.

So if FF doesn't crash unless I go to certain sites (eg: LogMeOn) in conjunction with doing other things, and nothing else hangs or crashes, I should reformat my machine? Hmmm...

I was responding to MZ's former PC issues, not to firefox problems.

when PC's/Laptops begin Blue Screening, freezing and crashing, 9 times out of 10 it is from malware, spyware etc. The other 1 time it is contributed to hardware failure.

I used some software that ran through the computer and found a whole bunch of registry errors, but as far as I'm aware it was clean of nasties as I had several layers of protection, only visit trusted sites, don't open spam email, only download from trusted sources and so on.

Mind you, my laptop is probably buggered out after the sheer volume of use it's had, as well as the extent of the heat it produces, it's no doubt melted itself into senility.

So yeah you are that 10% of hardware failures, but you did have registry errors too, so it is a mixed bag.

So heat and a buggered registry (I think so anyway, it'd done that before at least once or twice) shagged my laptop eh? I've still got it, might give it a go some time to see if it's any better after running that software, but it now purposefully runs itself hot...which it never used to do, I mean it got hot, but not boiling hot like it does now unless I run an external fan on it.

Might be one of the fans inside are clogged, or stopped working. No one ever tells you this, but PC's that get heavy work outs need cooling devices inspected every 6 months, especially the thermal grease on the processor.

Chrome's giving me a few bugs/freezes very seldomly, but what do you expect from a BETA? Can't wait until the finished version is released.

The fan moves, but does bugger all.

I gave that area a good blasting out recently with compressed air, but didn't make much difference. I think it's an inherently iffy fan, but it definitely didn't used to get as hot as it does now, I mean I could have it running throughout the winter at uni for a month solid and it was fine - in the summer I'd put a desk fan on it to help cool it (and me at the same time), as summers on the east coast of England got f*ckin' hot when I was at uni.

Yeah, I reckon it's no doubt buggered, didn't really put much thought into a shafted fan unit, hmmm...in turn that'd sh*t up some of the components with the added heat, right?

    Damn...learn something new everyday.

I figured there'd be some iffy news about it sooner or later:

Thought people might be interested, just found this on my morning surf.

I'm on the verge of not using it anymore, anyway. It's getting way too laggy and freezes up on me constantly.
