"Liberal Arts" 8/10 (Great) - Pretty well written & smart. A fairly intellectual meditation on what it means to grow up & grow older after moving on past the halls of academia, wrapped in a sweet & tasteful story of a 39 year old alum & a 19 yr old sophomore who are drawn to each other. Elizabeth Olsen is a joy to watch (as usual), & Richard Jenkins gives a great performance as always.

    'The Road'

    10/10

Moonsylver could be right. I might actually hate fun! Cos there's not a flippin ounce of that bollocks in this film.

Seriously though. Watch the bloody film, if you haven't done so already.

I wouldn't go so far as to give The Road a 10/10, but I do rate it highly ... although I think the book is still superior.

I've really wanted to see it for a long time, but haven't worked myself up to it due to the high level of downer content. I suspect I'll really have to be in the right mood first

Too much "fun". That's your problem.

True, the book is better. But I really dislike McCarthy's lack of punctuation in his writing style.

As a film in it's own right, however, it's one of the few pictures that achieves absolute clarity in its tone, even if it is a thoroughly depressing one. I'd very rarely knock out a 10/10 for any film, but it's certainly a film that had affected me. One of the very few.

"Not Another Happy Ending" 7/10 (Good) - Fairly typical Rom-Com fluff. But Karen Gillian is adorable, so I'll give it a pass.

Is saw 'Threads' when it first broadcast on the BBC and scared the 80's out me.

I have it on DVD somewhere. A brilliant example of British drama that they've lost the ability to make in recent years unfortunately. The only thing "wrong" with 'Threads' is that it should have been a three part mini-series.
