An electric charge can jump across gaps in the conducting material, the size of the gap it can jump depends on the voltage. Is that right? I'm not an electrician or a physicist so I'm not 100%.

I'm not sure if it's voltage or amperage (current) that make the difference, but you're right, the higher the voltage/current, the better chances there are it will "jump the gap" so-to-speak (look up that little electronic device called a "Jacob's Ladder" for good examples of electricity jumping gaps). I feel sorry for this dude - hell of a way to go. On a lighter note: could this dude be nominated for a Darwin Award?
