Why is it in ,pop culture, games like d and d were you meet up with friends and interact as a group are considered more nerdy and antisocial than sitting alone playing an fps on a console? seriously, i take consoles anyway, but im an antisocial asshole with a heart of coal, but in generalities, this has been bugging me all day, were does this come from?, why is the group one lame but the loner one not so lame?

I would guess it has to do with the fact that game play for console or PC is so much more readily available, as you don't need other people. The availability of this game play then makes it more socially acceptable because so many people can then choose to play. With tabletop roleplaying and LARPing it's just not as available and people who do not want to try, or are not able to try, can feel free to ridicule those who do. Additionally, the casual nature of console and PC gaming is almost diametrically opposed (a term I first learned thanks to AD&D ) to the more controlled, time-intensive, cooperative nature of tabletop and LARPing and this sort of thing makes traditional role-players easy marks I miss my PnP (pencil and Paper) role-playing. It's hard to find people who want to play and when you do you have to schedule with them, get along with them and have the same game-style/philosophy.

Come to Charlotte Aces. I still play, we have a pretty big group that get together at least once a month for various sessions. Hell, you have to realize that D&D was around WAY before console games. Dungeons and Dragons got its nerd stigma early on. Back then it wasn't "Which is nerdier, console games or D&D" it was "Which is nerdier, D&D or playing sports, Going to parties, or getting laid." I think that choice is pretty obvious. We nerds played D&D as a way to socially gather when the other options (Parties, sports, girls) weren't available. Ahhh. . .thankfully, most of us have since discovered girls. Hell there are even girl roleplayers now. It's a brave new world.

I miss my PnP (pencil and Paper) role-playing. It's hard to find people who want to play and when you do you have to schedule with them, get along with them and have the same game-style/philosophy. all the comments on penny arcade about the 4th edition got me looking into it (i played the old one in the big cube box) and a lot of people apparently play it online via skype and some tabletop virtual program, wich kinda brings it half circle i guess.
