REC/Quarantine Question: *Spoiler*

Can someone explain who that little boy in the attic is?
Was he some kid who sneaked into the apartment to play then let the girl who was infected and being kept there free by accident? Then he escaped into the attic and succumbed to the virus?
That's my theory on it if the reason why he was there wasn't explained. Maybe it was explained and I just missed it. I can't see them throwing a scene like that into the movie without some kind of explanation on who he might be.
Thoughts?

i think they were in the buildings attic ,him and the little girl, chasing round the dog and went up in another upper level room and went done into the priests one by mistake and then everything went to ****.

Yeah, cause wasn't the freak girl locked in a room, so someone would have had to let her out, so maybe the girl and boy were up there and the boy went back and let the girl out by mistake, escaped back into the attic but somehow got trapped up there, eventually turning into one of the freaks.
What I can't understand too is when the light was shown on him and it crashed down the guy and girl still had no idea he was even up there, and never did as far as I know. Wouldn't the boy start screeching and then try and jump down from the attic to attack them? Strange and creepy stuff indeed.

I can't remember if any of this was explained in the sequel.

Wasn't that boy Patient Zero? The first one to be possessed that the priest/doctor/whatever was trying to cure? Been long time since I last saw it...

I just thought that they were kids the priest was experimenting on/studying and they'd been in the apartment for a while. When the priest went off somewhere (I can't remember where), he just locked them up.

I gave up giving a damn when Rec 2 said it was all about possession.

Sod that nonsense.

Pretty sure that REC 1 said it was about demonic possession anyway.

Nah...possession is just silly.

The first sort of hinted, but you could take it as a bogus religious explanation. When it was actually confirmed in the second I film, I was out.

strange that i just watched this and here this thread is...

i agree with shootem. in the first movie there isn't a straight out explanation, only vague bits and pieces that suggest a religious underpinning. the second film was far too literal for my tastes and i found it rather a crappy excuse/reason for the events in the films.

I'm right there with you guys. I think that's why the Americanized Quarantine version never goes the possession route and sticks to the rabies deal. That's why I prefer Quarantine I suppose even though the second is shit. I wish Quarantine 2 had been more like REC2 in that they return to the original building. Pretty sure the girl or whatever it is at the end is fully explained in REC2.

I rather liked the possession angle. I thought it was something fresh, different, & a little creepy, as it was revealed in the 1st one. Have not seen the 2nd though, so...
