    Deadgirl

I searched the forums and I couldn't find anything about it, so...

Deadgirl is a movie about two outcasts in school; Ricky and TJ. After school they both bust in to an abandoned asylum and find a secret door. Inside they find a girl chained to a bed and gagged, wrapped up in plastic.
"We could keep her... No one will come look for her." TJ says.

Now, this isn't a zombie-movie per se, but the girl is dead and do indeed kill a few things during the movie.

Has anyone seen it? At first I was confused in terms of if I liked it or not, but I've decided I actually did.

Ramblings about why I like it: (no real spoilers, just annoying wall of text for those interested.)

The actors are spectacular, even though some times they overuse some words like the characters names and the word "Man". XD
The girl playing the Deadgirl is amazing! She's beautiful yet really ugly being kind of dead and... rotting :P

There's no unnecessary clip of the boys having sex with her in disgusting ways, only lines they say to eachother making the viewer understand what they've been doing. I'm glad they didn't show it, it would've ruined it and made it into some horror-porno in my opinion :P

They show two different ways of objectifying women; one in a morbid and twisted way (having sex with a silent, chained girl) while one is in a way we're more used to, even though in the end, it's kind of the same. (Eyeing the woman you think you love, even though you actually do not know her. Having sexual dreams, where of course, she doesn't speak a word, just like the Deadgirl.)

In terms of "indie" and different, it's pretty good! I was surprised.

    Interesting
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. A Review

"Deadgirl" is actually extremely well done -- and I am honestly surprised that no one has considered doing a similar plot as this, and treating it seriously, previously. I intend on buying it on DVD when it comes out. I would honestly say it's the best damn zombie flick I have seen in a long, long time -- and probably one of the five best zombie films I have ever seen.

    ** SPOILERS BELOW **

The whole concept of coming across a fairly hot dead zombie (as hot as a dead zombie chick can be) who is chained up in a mental asylum is really fascinating. It makes you wonder, who put her there? How long has she been there? My guess is that she had been a patient there for some time and when the asylum closed down a doctor who was tasked with destroying her felt pity for her and ended up chaining her up out of some emotional attachment and inability to destroy her.

The film also has you ask some fairly disturbing questions: If you had access to an attractive ghoul that you knew couldn't bite you from being chained up, would you do what the characters in this flick do with her? If she was human it would be one thing, but this creature is not human any longer -- meaning that she no longer has human emotions or feelings, and the *majority* of the characters no longer feel constrained to treat her with human dignity, and so their continuous raping of her is not seen as a crime to them, but simply enjoying the situation of having a dead girl at their disposal (cue Rob Zombie's "Living Dead Girl"). Whether it is still rape or not when the human is no longer human is really the main point of this film, is it okay if the former human is no longer there? I would say that just about any guy who has any interest in Romero's zombie-flicks have considered this (free-access with a dead girl) to some extent or another at one time or another -- whether said guy wants to admit this or not is another matter entirely -- the ethical considerations of it as well. Of course, a world where zombies try to eat you gives a whole new meaning to ethical considerations.

The movie does have the courage to ask: Is it morally objectionable to have your will with a ghoul that is no longer human? And while it does not become a preachy statement one way or the other, it does present the discussion very well. The film also has some wonderful dark humor within it, I found myself cracking up several times from some of the non-intentional comedy within it. It's a messed up film, ethically and visually (some rather disturbing scenes, but nothing we haven't really seen before), and at the same time it brings out a certain type of dark humor that I haven't really seen in a ghoul-movie.

For me personally, this film had a bit of a "Donnie Darko" inherent darkness about it -- which is never a bad thing as "D.D." is one of my favorite films. There is not any white and black, it's all shades of grey presented here.

Wonderful, wonderful movie -- I can't compliment it enough. Definitely in my list of the 5 best zombie films made.

Just read the summary you posted and decided it sounded good enough to hold off reading anything else. I want to see this!

    Looks like fun...

That actually looks like a really good movie but i'm a bit put off by the spoilage and how it deals with a sort of necrophilia. Looking forward to it being available on Netflix... wouldn't want to buy it without watching it like the whole Automaton Transfusion fiasco of Christmas 08... ohhh there are some movies you dont want to own...

I wonder... if she's living dead can she have a zombaby? And would it be dead or alive?
You smell that? That's the smell of spring, and I love it. You know what I love to do in spring? I love to come out into the woods, to walk amongst the budding trees, to smell and taste the hint of renewal that hovers in the air like a heady perfume, and to listen to the song of the birds who have returned from their long sojourn south. And bury the people I killed during the winter...

Well now i'm watching Nekromantic too ... anything else? I will say... all this dead girl necrophilia talk reminds me of Cabin Fever and the scene between the brunette and Ryder Strong... or the scene in Creepshow where they're on the floating dock... just because someones dead or near death they're still meat... just a stale version of fresh meat...

Yeah, I actually found that scene in Creepshow 2 very disturbing. She wasn't actually dead at that point, but comparing it with the first movie which seemed very innocent by comparison, the second film was just a nasty explotation picture.

Did you have to put an unmarked spoiler right below the post that stated I didn't want one?

I dunno about anyone else, but I pretty much assumed it was about necrophilia from your original post anyway, without opening the spoiler box, I didn't realise that was the spoiler until just now.

I've just ordered the UK edition of the DVD (the US version has a prettier frontcover, but I just can't wait until September, haha!), I'll let you know if the extra material's any good :D

Agreed! I guess there aren't too many people that are ready to take a risk.

I read an interview with Gadi Harel (one of the directors) and apparently they shot a lot of more gore sequences that didn't appear in the film, just in case they failed with getting their point across they'd sell it as a splatter film instead. I'm glad they decided to distribute it as they intended to.
