Anyone know anything about this? (early GAR stuff)

I was browsing through some of the Google News Archives (an excellent resource for trawling and finding interesting shit on old digitized newspapers), and I came across this article:

You might need to zoom out a little to see it all.

It seems, around 1962, GAR was working on a kids' show about flying around in a helicopter. This isn''t the Mister Ed stuff is it? Anyone know what this would have been?

It say's it was for WQED-TV in Pittsburgh. WQED was the station where the children's t.v show Mister Rogers' Neighborhood was filmed. He probably was doing it for the t.v. station for some educational programming and that eventually led to his work for Fred Rogers' show. Lots of former Romero employees worked there; like Zilla Clinton and Nick Tallo for example. Batman himself, Michael Keaton, worked on the show before he moved to Hollywood.
BTW, that's a great find Kraken. I've actually found a lot of really interesting articles about Romero on that Google news site as well.

Oh yeah, Mr Rogers was the name of the show! Mr Ed, haha, wasn't he a horse or something?

Yeah, that Google News Archive site is amazing. Just yesterday, I was actually able to use the service to finally settle a decades-old debate over the existence of the "legendary" gay Jesus movie Him. Turns out it did exist after all, I did an article for it on my Obscurity and Beyond blog if anyone's interested (I hasten to add that blasphemous gay porn isn't normally my bag )

Yep, a talking horse. As in:

    A horse is a horse
    Of course, of course
And no one can talk to a horse, of course
    That is, of course
    Unless the horse
    Is the famous Mr. Ed!

One thing I found amusing about the newspaper article is that they actually gave full names and addresses for the 7 and 11-year-old kids interviewed! Can you imagine them doing that now?

Obviously, this was back in the days when sex offences were hushed up and paedophilia was rarely even mentioned in the news.

Well spotted, I didn't notice that!

Do you guys think this could be where Latent Image began? Or was Latent Image already in existance?

Perhaps Gary can answer that one?
