She was a good replacement for Katie Holmes. I would rather hit Maggie over Katie anyday of the week...

Bad enough that it does an absolutely awful job of ripping off a decent psycho-killer movie like Natural Born Killers, but it caps off its idiocy when, after Ann (one of the murderers victims) manages to snatch the shotgun and kill one of the murderers, the other rummages for the TV remote, finds it, then calmly rewinds events to before she shot his accomplice, then stops her when she goes for the gun and kills her husband.

The entire movie has the plot integrity of an iteration of Hostel, and I cannot recall the last time a movie fundamentally irritated me this much by its very existence. I literally want to take a golf club and beat everyone responsible for this travesty's creation to death.

Yup, Funny Games, bumps a movie off my Bottom 10 Worst Movies list to take its place.

    /rant over.
funny games...remember that flick, the one this thread is about...is an complete and total piece of cinematic dinosaur shit.

i really, really de-fucking-test preachy ass "message" movies. that is exactly was this celluloid afterbirth is. i must suppress a chuckle every time some dimwit film director/writer/etc. tries to make a movie deploring violence or make some grand sweeping statement about "how our society is desensitized to violence, blah, blah, blah", by making a movie that is violent and sadistic as hell.

anyone else see a basic problem of logic in that?

Nah, Katie Holmes is a little cutie. Though now that she's been tainted by Tom Cruise...

I've had a crush on Maggie Gillenhal since the Secretary and then in Sherry Baby she had this whole sexy "trailer trash" thing. I think she's hot as hell in a way.

But having said that. . .I do notice one offputting thing.

After seeing only a portion of what all she does in that film, I'd have to spray the couch after that. I'd be afraid of sitting on it in just my boxers. (Not Ricci necessarily, but her character in that film).

I think I've put my finger on what irritated me so much about Funny Games,
They act like they're so damned clever with their breaking down of the "Fourth Wall" via the TV-remote-rewinding of their victim shooting one of her murderers. It was such a direct "Fuck you" kind of insulting plot device. It just got under my skin and festered, irritated with its self-satisfied air.

I mean, I generally don't have a problem with movies where the bad guys win. This was something else though. Like they were portraying the murderers getting away with it as the natural order, and how dare the victim be so crude as to actually fight back.

Sorry I'm not more articulate here, but just sharing my thoughts.
