    Dark Souls (PS3/360)

New trailer with a few bits of gameplay:

I never played Demon's Souls, but this looks phenomenal. The art style alone almost makes me forget Dragon Age II exists:

Anyone else check this game out? I picked it up last week and am having a hell of a time with it. If you have the patience to deal with the gameplay, check it out:

Just picked up the limited edition today - about to take it for a spin. Don't worry about the screams and the sounds of breaking glass, it's probably just me dying, lol.

    EDIT:

Okay, this game is outstanding, loving the gloomy atmosphere and that undead castle place is just beautifully designed - feels like it belongs in a Hammer film. Sweet.

At the moment at least, I'm not finding it overly difficult, those spear guys are a pain in the ass, but from everything I've read/heard I was expecting it to be a truely apocalyptic kick in the face. Maybe it's my pro-gamer skillz or something, lol. I mean I've binned it a fair few times but nowhere near as much as I thought I would. Famous last words...

And who'd have though rolling through barrels and furniture was so much fun, it's almost a mini-game in itself!

Yeah man, brilliant game, fantastic atmosphere just like demon's souls...

What I do not understand though is how so many gaming journalists on the net, no doubt spurred on by the whole marketing campaign with its prepare to die.com sites and what have you, constantly emphasize how this is supposed to be the hardest, most sadistic and unforgiving gaming experience ever,... Usually followed by a host of forum posts by people reacting to the review with statements on how hard they are in comparison to all these noobs. Sigh.

Sure it's hard, way harder than most of what's out there, but had these people been playing back in the 8bit days they wouldn't know what hit them. Completing Megaman2 or Ninja Gaiden, or even the first Super Mario Bros, now THAT was hard.

Just got to BlightTown, and loving every aspect of this game. As far as the difficulty, everything feels so balanced in regards to bonfire locations, loot drops, and enemy placement that I've yet to feel any of my deaths were cheap. The best aspect about DS so far is simply how well the huge, sprawling world is connected together; going further and further into the depths just to see what's around the next corner is a treat all too rare in gaming, imo.

Also, the Firelink Shrine theme may be one of my favorite pieces of videogame music ever. So haunting:

Someone at IGN sure likes Dark Souls. Here's a rather nice interview with the director:
