Are you ready for more Alan Wake?

I know i am, more remedy, aww year.

Rumour has it its about the secret society which sheriff breakers dad was part of that kept the more minor outbreaks of the darkness at bay around bright falls in the late 70's/early 80's.

You all know that in game brown camero will be found again near a cabin in those woods...

    Eh?

Anyway - more Alan Wake and more Remedy is always a good thing. I look forward to seeing what it all ends up being.

Secret society, eh? Reminds me of the one Harry S. Truman & Co belonged to in Twin Peaks.

Any word on whether it is supposed to be a bit more of a free-roaming approach to the gameplay?

Jarpi or mikki from the dev team said on the remedy forums they dont want to make a free roam game, they toyed with it but remedies company ethos of 'cinematic action and suspense' doesnt really work if you cant direct the player. same reason valve hasnt done one really.

much as the original detective searching for clues version appealed to me i agree with them. Imagine max payne in a free roam new york? it wouldnt be nearly as good. so much time wasted adding way more world thats just to dick around in instead of follow the plot. Look at san andreas as a prime example.

Yeah, I think sandbox environments are only good if that's the point of the game - or half the point at least - to dive into a world and go nuts. However, as you say, Alan Wake is story-driven. Scares need to come at certain points from certain directions ... it'd be like Call of Duty's campaign being set in an open world - just daft.

    The first screenshot is up:

Looks nifty - I just wish it wasn't digital download only.

I wonder if this game takes place within Alan Wake's episode of Night Springs that he wrote? (As mentioned by Barry during the original game, IIRC) Then again, how does that tie-in to the apparent plotline about that secret society? Hmmm...

im thinking the screenshot is of alan sort of 'quantum leaping' into the protagonist from his night springs episode as he rises through the darkness again.

Shame this game never made it to the PC
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Indeed, you certainly missed out. While it had some flaws, I found the game world, plot, and characters to be really arresting - I really got sucked into the world of Bright Falls, and it had that uniquely Remedy feel to it. It felt crafted with love and care, unlike many other games out there.

Yeah, it just very much like being a hamster dropped into one end of a maze...and not even a very twisty maze at that. Level design was actually pretty good, within all the confines they put upon themselves, but I kind of want your investigations to also have the possibility of giving you an edge while playing, as opposed to the raison d'être for scene interludes.
