Cold Blooded Beast (Fernando Di Leo, 1971):
    https://deadshed.blogspot.co.uk/2017...-leo-1971.html

Straddling the lines between the gialli thrillers and softcore romps that were so popular with mainstream audiences in Italy during the 1970s, Fernando (Milano Calibro 9) Di Leo's skin 'n' kills movie Cold Blooded Beast (otherwise known as Slaughter Hotel) features a bevy of beautiful women inflagranti and in peril, as well as Werner Herzog's notorious performer Klaus Kinski…

I didn't like that one too much.

It's crazy and it's got a few good scenes. But the almost complete lack of plot bores me. As well as near endless sleaze.

Had this film had a plot that connected the horror elements of the story better, it could have been very good.

True. The paper thin plot was a big problem. I mentioned one or two things that could have been really interesting to see expanded in the screenplay, but which weren't even touched upon. It is like a succession of 'sleaze scenes' with a few scraps of 'back of an envelope' plotting scattered around. Because of the regularity of the sex scenes, each one becomes less sexy, if that makes sense? The kills have very little tension attached to them, and the sex scenes (most of the time) lack titillation due to their 'factory line' set-up.

Like I said, kind of a middling effort. I've certainly seen worse, but I've also seen far better examples of the genre.

I'm trying my best to come up with one I'd consider worse.

Live Like A Cop, Die Like A Man (Ruggero Deodato, 1976):
    https://deadshed.blogspot.co.uk/2017...n-ruggero.html

Ruggero Deodato will perhaps forever be inextricably linked to his notorious grand guignol video nasty Cannibal Holocaust, but the famous Italian director tried his hands at numerous genres. He dabbled in gialli with the likes of The Washing Machine, for instance, albeit in the 1990s long after the movement's heyday in the 1970s. Indeed, three genres ruled supreme at the Italian box office – the aforementioned gialli (bloody murder mysteries), sex comedies, and crime films (generally referred to as poliziotteschi), and it is in this latter category that Deodato produced one of his finest films. Live Like A Cop, Die Like A Man (what a fantastic title!) is an ultra-charged poliziottescho that knows no bounds of shame, as tough-as-nails coppers take on the dangerous world of crime...

    Francesca (Luciano Onetti, 2015):

Low budget Argentinian neo-giallo flick which sells the 1970s aesthetic like few other throwback flicks have achieved.

    Exactly!

Apparently there's a sequel, although I recall hearing it's not much cop.

How to start a movie ... Step 1: Blow some people up with dynamite. Step 2: There is no step 2.

This film is fantastic. Saw it the first time about a year ago. Watched it again since them. This makes me want to rewatch it a third time.

Aye. Thematically rich and with fists flying everywhere, it's a satisfying watch. Quite a lot of substance to it.
