V/H/S (film) - "it made audiences SICK"

    - Two movie-goers treated by paramedics after witnessing graphic scenes
    - Reported incident happened at Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah
    - Third woman had to leave cinema because she 'couldn't stand suspense'
    - Film producers insist they had to call ambulances and it wasn't stage

The film, acquired by Magnolia Pictures for more than $1million, follows a group of petty criminals looking for a VHS tape in a remote and rundown house, only to find a trove of recorded nastiness.

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. It's amazing how producers and studios are still able to get away with this kind of free promotion.

What's even worse is that people keep falling for it....

I'm interested in checking it out - merely because of the VHS thing.

i know right? 'people sick' goes hand in hand with 'running from the theatre in terms of 'we dont think this film can ride on its own merit' desperation for marketing buzz.

If anything this turns me away from a flick. if troma doesnt need to rely on this nobody should in this day and age.

This gimmick is old... really old. Surprised they didn't hand out barf bags or mention an "insurance policy" for theaters in case any patrons fainted due to fright.

As Neil originally posted, this happened at Sundance.

While I know this is all a gimmick - it still has me interested.

sounds like william castle is back from the grave. i wonder what is next: an attempt at "the tingler" type theatre seats. hey, with 3D so big for the next 22 mins or so that would be a perfect combo.

The only movie that I know of that disturbed people to the point of causing many to walk out at Cannes was Irreversible. I have seen more than my share of horror, crime scene photos, autopsy videos, etc, but that one scene from the movie made me cringe and I wanted it to end. Irreversible isn't some cinema verite or low quality indie film, but very well made.

I've owned Irreversible for years now and have been too chicken shit to watch it.
