    Not overly impressed myself...
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Yep, I couldn't get all the way through it. Looked like a too long set up for some Gorillaz music video.
Maybe I"ll try again later when I'm in a better mood for it.

I felt that the action and especially the tone was all over the place. What were they going for?

It seemed like it started out as some horrid parody of a Gorillaz video, then swerved off track riding the curb for a time before rolling over twice, and landing on top of a cub scout troop, exploding into a massive mushroom cloud like some midget nuke.
    Uh, what was the question?
Seriously, the tim burton style ending did not help this poor sad little vid. I had to immediately go back and read the source story( part of the 1989 Book of The Dead zombie anthology, all in homage of George R. Romero ) to get back all the good vibes lost watching this travesty.

I couldn't put my finger on it... but that's spot on!
