Been meaning to watch this, but have read the plot outline already so am not in the biggest rush. Sounded interesting considering the ethical implications of being able to clone a loved one.

I agree. A proper zombie film needs voodoo to qualify.

What a F bore of a movie...which is odd to say considering she reaches "Marvel levels" of OP by the end of the movie. Somehow they found a way though.

Gangs of New York isn't one of Marty's best, but I'd never give it a 3/10 personally. A solid 6/10 in my own personal view (I've seen it twice and like many things about it, while other elements leave me cold) ... but it's definitely not as gripping as his classics, or even much of his recent work like Shutter Island or The Aviator or The Wolf of Wall Street ... although even an iffy Marty movie is still a good movie.

As for "Tusk" - I'm very much looking forward to checking it out when it finally hits DVD/Blu-Ray on our shores.

Ha ha...Danny Day is probably the best thing in the whole show. He gets the 3 points.

'Tusk' is decent, but it wasn't what I thought it was going to be and be prepared for some silliness too. I won't say any more. It's best gone into blind as it were. But, I will say that once again Smith has yet to deliver a film that matches 'Clerks'.

'Gangs of New York' was pretty awful though, I have to be honest. It just didn't know what it wanted to be, even when it realises that it's simply a, poor, run-of-the-mill revenge flick and there's waaaay too much nonsense in it to let go. The wayward accents, for a start, are terrible. Nearly everybody in it has an accent that's as carefree as a summer breeze. I was actually LOL'ing at some points. Jim Broadbent, a character actor I admire, has an accent that is simply beyond him and is just awful as Boss Tweed.

It also never looks real at any point. It's supposed to be historical, but looks a fake as you like and I really did keep expecting the cast to break into song! Speaking of songs the twee, diddly eye, Oiorish music was bloody terrible and should have been jettisoned.

The best characters on offer were, of course, Butcher Bill (Daniel Day Lewis) and Monk McGinn (Brendan Gleeson). Everyone else was either shite (Leo being crap again), misused (like Stephen Graham), or a simple stock character, like token black buddy (Lawrence Gilliard {Bob in 'The Walking Dead}), or whore with a heart of gold (the awful Cameron Diaz {one of the dullest actresses ever}).

It's story is pretty dull as well and it's impossible to take seriously a character like Amsterdam Vallon (Leonardo Di Caprio), who spends the bulk of the film carefully plotting to kill Butcher Bill, while gaining his confidence and waiting to make his move. A move, that when it happens, is probably the amateurish and frankly stupid attempt at an assassination I have ever seen and ends in inevitable and laughable failure. On top of that, Butcher Bill in true panto villain style doesn't opt to kill his enemy...no...he let's him live, only to try and whack him later!

'Gangs of New York' has to be marked as a monumental failure. But Scorsese really hasn't made a classic since 'Goodfellas', although 'Casino' comes close and while 'The Departed' and 'The Wolf of Wall Street' are good, Scorsese is a director who's best work is well and truly behind him, I'm sorry to say.
