    4/5

The character of Alan is starting to bug me quite a lot the older I get. The shitty DVD transfer was awful as well (is this film on Blu-Ray by the way?). But I love the cemetary scenery and the zombies are of a proper kind - slow and terrifying. (if I had not loved zombies, it would probably only have been a 3/5)

    "Automata" 5/10 (So-so) - Blade Runner+I Robot set in a post-apoc dystopia.

Nice depiction of the the robots themselves (they felt very realistic, & very much like real machines, & alien in their self awareness). Interesting handling of the future, of machine sentience, & the "message" itself was an interesting one, but overall the pacing was a bit too laborious, & the movie itself a bit tedious. At just under 1:50 it actually felt quite a bit longer.

Decent cast, but really not much of a story per se. The middle act dragged mightly & felt very drawn out to pad the run time & fill the space between the beginning & the reveal/finale.

    Sin City 2 - 8/10

Second viewing inside a month and I already want to watch it a third time. I've no idea why it got shat on so much - it's more of the what we dug about the first movie - what's not to like? It's not as good as the first (which I'd give a 10/10 to), sure, but I really don't understand the beating this movie took.

Also interesting to compare the visual advancements over the first movie - most explicitly seen, I'd say, in Kadie's Bar. In the first movie (which I also watched recently for the umpteenth time) there's a surprising amount of colour to Kadie's Bar, and frankly it does stick out like a sore thumb from the rest of the movie, but in the second they really settle it in to everything else which feels visually perfected.

I'd love for there to be a Sin City 3, but I'd imagine that's a long damn shot at this point ... bummer.

This is certainly no Kick-Ass (same director). It has some good moments, but there's lots of weaker moments, and the last 20 mins or so just feel almost embarrassing in places IMHO it's so ill-considered.
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
