I enjoyed it. I had no idea it was based on a true story either so I didn't know which way it was gonna go.
    Good film, that!

I thought Hanks' performance was great at the end after he'd been rescued - the shock setting in, the relief, the fear, the whole tidal wave of emotions - it felt painfully real.

That bit has stuck with me above everything else in the movie - and there's a lot of good stuff in the movie!

I agree, that part was very good.

    Hostel - 7.5/10

I've definitely grown to appreciate this flick more and more over the years, and I think it's more settled in time - and in the horror genre - now than it was when it came out. I think it's unfair for it to be written off as 'torture porn' as there's more going on in that flick than torture, and the central idea is disturbing as all get out and perfect for a horror movie. Well directed, good script, top notch practical gore, and some crafty ideas behind all the splatter. I think the nudity and violence got in the way of the themes - how the movie takes the foreigner's eye view of these further flung reaches of Europe being nothing but a playground where the people are there to be used for their own vices (.e.g think lads holidays to Thailand, or stag do's to places like Prague where drunk idiots will smash a place up and toss a few notes on the floor and laugh because it's cheap and they have no respect for the locals).

I'll give the sequel another spin soon, perhaps even tonight.

I saw the third movie (the one that wasn't written or directed by Roth) and, aside from a couple of good ideas and a couple of decent moments, the movie was rough as a badger's arse. I gotta be honest, Hostel 3 felt cheap; the characters were downright detestable at worst or completely forgettable at best, and generally it was all rather 'meh'.

Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films - 8/10

It's pretty brisk, and at times you wish they'd have spent a little more time on certain topics, but with such a wealth of material to cover it's no surprise it feels like a sprint from the get go. Rather entertaining!

    Hostel 2 - 7.5/10

    Tomorrowland - 6/10

It's got some neat ideas, and a groovy sense of wonder, but the sparks don't quite get the fire going. Good for a watch, but I can't imagine I'll be returning to it for a second go round.

I loved this documentary! A very detailed look at the 80's studio underdog that grew into a major studio but just pushed their limits a bit too far. I'm interested in that train heist movie they mentioned as probably canon's best and least recognized film...

Dope: the story of a self proclaimed geek and his two friends destimed to leave their gang ridden neighborhood, and get into ivy league schools to move onto better lives. When they inadvertently end up with a large amount of MDA/molly, they must decide their exit strategy. Ditch the drugs, or make some profit at the risk of threats and possible murder from the actual owners. This flick is really a great coming of age story. It is a coming of age story showing that you must take risky chances to better your life, or avoid criminal activity in every way and blaze your own path with your own intelligence and determination. I really enjoyed this one. 8/10

    Spectre - 7.5/10

Of the Daniel Craig era I'd rank them like this: 1) Casino Royale, 2) Skyfall, 3) Spectre, 4) Quantum of Solace - and note that QoS craps all over the weak entries of the Roger Moore era (of which there was more than one IMHO).

There's many things that Spectre gets right, and there's a few things it doesn't. There's some elements (e.g. the Swann character, or Oberhauser) that they needed to develop more in both the script and the performances, I feel, and as for the Bond song ... I think the music is good (more of a romantic, mercurial, intriguing feel), the lyrics are okay, but the vocals are the problem in my view. There's one part of the song where the chap changes his voice and it seriously sounds more like someone taking the piss out of all singers and singing in general, than a serious performance (it just sounds wrong).

I think the CNS plot, while interesting, did distract from 'Oberhauser', who wasn't in the movie as much as I thought he would have been.

    Do I smell a follow-up?
It was nice to see a little bit of the gadgets in this one, particularly with Skyfall concluding as it did with a more 'here are some of the classic key elements back in play' vibe - the car, the watch, and indeed the humour (e.g. the couch gag). There's plenty of rough and tumble, but I think Craig - as well as the Bond character (and the overall story of Craig's Bond flicks) - have settled into their roles, which has brought about this smoother vibe to the character. The added 'classic Bondishness' gives Spectre it's own feel versus Craig's previous three Bond films.

I do think there's a significant 'Skyfall factor' to Spectre - as in, Spectre could never possibly live up to Skyfall, which is an all-time great and had a superb story - so I'll have to see Spectre a couple of more times to let it sink in own it's own merits.

Of course there has been talk of Craig not returning between each of his four films, but for some reason I get the feeling that Spectre was the end of Craig's run as the agent. He successfully restored the series after Brosnan's abysmal last few entries, even returning many of the classic staples to a new generation of filmgoers, but after the inclusion of "oberhauser" and Craig is now essentially into full-blown Connery/Bond territory, I feel like now is the time he'll decide to bow out being that he's said all there really is to say with the character. I believe I've read that he has one more film listed in his contract, but I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue for the studio to let him go early considering his age and all he's done for the franchise.

Which leaves the question.....sense Craig's films were a "reboot" of the character, do they start all over again in a few years with a new actor, or do they simply insert a new actor and bring Christoph Waltz back? That would seem a bit jarring to have the same villain and a different Bond, IMO. Or perhaps they could insert a new Bond and just exclude Waltz all together. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Waltz himself refused to return without Craig and/or Mendes.

Anywho, I also rate the new series as Casino, Skyfall, Spectre, and then QOS. If Spectre is indeed Craig's last go as the character, the man did an absolutely fantastic job of bringing Bond back to his roots. Kind of funny considering all the hate he received when he was first announced for Casino Royale. Two of Craig's films have entered my list of all-time favorite Bond film, so that's one hell of a track record. IF he does return for one more round, here's hoping that he goes out on a high note and not surfing a tidal wave or some stupid crap like Brosnan....

Great little horror flick that hated in many quarters for some reason. It literally had me squirming in some places and that's not easy to do these days.
