Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. So I watched it the other night, and here are my thoughts...

Evil Dead Rise (Lee Cronin, 2023):

I reference a couple of scenes in the movie, but there's no real spoilers here.

Loved this one! 2013 edges it out for me but what a blast!

Someone uploaded it on Internet Archive, but I haven't decided whether I'm going to watch it or not. From the sounds of it, it will likely just waste my time and annoy me. Probably best just to stick to the original trilogy. I bought the 2013 remake years ago, but I wasn't crazy about it. I actually just recently dropped it off at the thrift store because I knew I'd never watch it again.

I don’t know, man, I just found it really fun. I don’t hold these films under a microscope.

Ah, so it's fisticuffs then, is it?

No microscope needed, the flaws were just that obvious.

It just felt so 'meh' a lot of the time, which was a right old bummer. A few flaws aside, the 2013 remake 'got' what an Evil Dead movie should do, whereas Rise repeatedly fails to go anywhere near the whole-hog.

I loved this movie. Went and saw it in the cinema, had a blast. Gets super intense towards the end.

So mixed reviews? I'll watch it then with low expectations, which hopefully with net a good result.

I’m in the loved it camp. Maintains the feel of Raimi’s work while taking it in different directions. This one maintains the schlocky, comedic horror much better than the remake from a decade or so back.
