"We Should Eat Ice Cream Too" (short story)...

This is a short sci-fi story I originally wrote a couple of years ago. It had been sitting around in a drawer for a while so I fished it out, polished it up, and made it available for anyone/everyone to have a read.

    Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for the read - Nice emotive piece that leaves you thinking
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Cheers, Neil.

A couple chunks of it came to me in an intensely vivid dream and then I expanded it from there. Your response to it is just the sort of thing I was aiming for with how I wrote it.

As I read it, it reminded me a tad of a style I sort of used in a story a while ago. Sort of almost standing outside the events and describing them clinically and emotively...

Cool, I dug it. I was kind of picturing scenes from Night of the Living Dead (or even scenes that could have happened elsewhere, earlier, in the overall story surrounding the events depicted in the film) ... albeit it's not specifically talking of that film, that's just some of what was going through me as I read it. Stripped back style was nice, and the strangeness (so you'd imagine) of waking up as one of the dead felt quite vivid.
