    The Shape Of Water (film)

    So saw this last night...

Really enjoyed it, BUT, I'd have to say some of the sex/violence in it almost felt out of place/character for the film. It felt as if it almost destracted from the film IMHO.
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Not seen it yet, but I will watch it.

It's odd seeing what is essentially a monster movie getting all this awards attention - it's pretty cool - especially as this sort of flick is pretty rare to get this level of love from an institution as stuffy as the Oscars. Although, I suppose some of the other themes in the movie help it 'qualify' in the minds of Oscars voters, but maybe things will be a bit less predictable/a bit more varied now that the Academy has had an injection of new members?
