    Day of the Dead...on AMC...at 1:20 p.m.?

Romero's Day of the Dead is rarely shown on TV at all, I was pleasantly surprised to see it on just now. AMC has certainly shown that they are not afraid of adult language, gore, etc., but I did think it was strange that they showed this in the middle of the afternoon? It ran from 1:20 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. so obviously it was edited for time. They did blank out the curse words, and a lot of the extreme gore, however, there was still a fair amount of gore.

Shawn of the Dead is next on AMC, followed by 28 Days Later, and then Army of Darkness. Great lineup, and I am certainly not offended whatsoever, but does anyone else think it is odd to show Day so early in the day?

Yeah, that seems like a stupid idea - particularly because it means, as you said, that they have to hack out/censor so much of it.

I found it strange a few years ago when AMC were doing their TWD marathons that you'd be showing that kind of gore during the day. Us folks here in the UK have all been raised on the "watershed" - which is at 9pm. Prior to that time there's no swearing allowed (or only the most tame words, and even then it must be in specific contexts) and of course violence or sexual stuff gets fiddled with ... an example would be Police Academy 4, just recently shown before the watershed: when Callahan jumps in the pool you're supposed to see a shot of her in a wet t-shirt, but in the pre-watershed version you get this lingering cutaway of House reacting to what we're not seeing. Another example would be Back To The Future, which oftens gets shown before the watershed, but all the swears are censored for TV (so instead of "Holy shit!" you get a real gear-crunch-sounding "Holy geez!")

Anyway - after 9pm the gloves come off, albeit gradually, and then it's all fair game (pretty much) after 10pm. You're not showing hardcore porn or anything, but nowadays all the violence, swearing, and sex in a movie or TV show is left in. Now, on Fox UK (where TWD is shown in a 9pm slot), they do tend to censor gore when it's 'too close' to the watershed line. The repeat of the episode after Talking Dead does, though, tend to be uncensored (11pm).

Interesting seeing the difference in ratings, too. In America the episodes are either TV-14 or TV-MA, but still being shown quite freely/widely. Here in the UK, because of the gore, TWD is rated 18 by the BBFC for home video markets (TV uses that as a guide, but IIRC it's not legally binding and, technically, a TV channel can show a film at a lower rating to the BBFC rating or indeed show a film that the BBFC hasn't passed - years ago, when TCM2 was still ostensibly banned in the UK, Bravo showed it on TV, albeit with a fair bit cut out (e.g. a load of the 'chainsaw sex' scene). Funny, though, because when it comes to sexual references TWD is a 12 at most and language wise it's either a strong 12 or an incredibly soft 15 - but gore wise it's a hard 18.
