    Dawn Argento Cut 4K Restoration

I’ve just seen over on the Blu-ray forums that there is a new 4K restoration of the Argento Cut on the way from France. There was previously an Italian 4K/UHD release, but the reviews said the quality was appalling. Cinematographer Michael Gornick is also going to supervise this release.

The ESC team is in Rome at the Backlight Digital HD laboratory with @michele de angelis to oversee the restoration of the full frame European version of the 4K Zombie film, made from an interposer. This restoration will be submitted to Michael Gornick in the coming days
Release date of April 23rd, 2019.

    Amazon France preorder: https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B07N3RHGTP?...bluraycom05-21

I personally haven’t bought into the UHD upgrades yet, waiting until it’s cheaper and I’m quite happy with 1080P, but regardless it’s nice to hear that Dawn is getting the restoration love!

    I’m digging this minimalist cover:

That’s obviously the standard BR case, but their preview of the UHD is the same.

All three edits in a new Second Sight release!

    Second Sight Press release:
Dawn of The Dead is set to be released as a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with HDR and will feature George A Romero’s Original, Unrated US Theatrical Release Cut (2:07), Romero’s Pre-US Release Cannes Cut (2:17) and the foreign edition edited by Dario Argento. There will also be a standard Blu-ray together with a Blu-ray release of Martin.

The scanning, colour grading and restoration of both films will be managed by Final Frame under the supervision of Director of Photography Michael Gornick.
The mastering and encoding will be handled by one of the entertainment technology industry’s most experienced specialists, David Mackenzie of Fidelity in Motion.

Slated for release late summer 2019, complete with brand new special features and more, Second Sight Films will announce further news via its social media channels

Awesome! As long as the normal Blu-Ray has all three cuts and all the features (i.e. kinda like the Studio Canal releases of four John Carpenter movies late last year where they had 4-disc UHD/BR releases and 2-disc BD releases), then I'll be a happy chappy.

I've seen some instances of the old Arrow set getting put online recently (including some by knock off merchants flogging copies to unsuspecting consumers), sometimes for absolutely silly prices, but there's sod all point now, is there? haha.

Really looking forward to Martin getting a proper release as well. I don't think that has been on Blu-Ray yet, certainly not in the UK AFAIK. I've got an old single disc DVD of it (from Arrow, IIRC) from like 2002 or thereabouts.

There is no BR release of Martin, anywhere in the world.

EDIT: Sorry, strike that. There's a japanese BR which just got released actually.

I’ve just seen on the blu ray forums that Second Sight’s set will be kind of a mixed bag with the region coding. The UHD discs will be region free, but the standard blu ray discs will be locked to region B. So US fans(and elsewhere) will need to have UHD or a multi-region player if they’re viewing the standard blu rays.

I wish they were all region free, but beggars can’t be choosers, right? Just excited to finally get the full set!

Also....and this should be taken with a grain of salt, there’s a rumor that one of the big US region distributors also have the rights. I’ve seen it suggested that several companies partnered up in order to satisfy Rubenstein’s ransom demands. I personally have a hard time believing that a US company is just sitting on their announcement after Second Sight has let it out, but who knows? The part about Rubenstein’s greedy demands sounds about right, at least. We all know how he is.

EDIT: Second Sight is definitely putting in the effort and producing new features! This morning they were filming at the airport location with Jim Krut(flat top zombie) and Savini’s niece and nephew(child zombies).
