    Microphone Help

Ok, lookin for a microphone that'll hook up to a mini dv camera, that'll save me from using the camera's internal mic.

any suggestions without having to spend 100s of bucks?

Well if you want Stereo sound you are going to need to spend at least $200

If you can afford $200-$250 and want Stereo sound I suggest the Audio Technica AT835b or AT897. These shotgun mics are outstanding. If Mono is doable for you check out the $50 priced ATR55 it is an Audio Technica Mono Shotgun mic. It has an 1/8" adapter. The first two mics listed are XLR.

Depends on what sort of camera as well. If it's consumer level, like most people have for home movies, then it's not going to have the XLR connections (unlike the DVX100B which does, for instance ... of course, the DVX is a pro camera...so they're completely different leagues).

But if it's the consumer level, you should be able to find a compact little "shotgun" microphone that you can connect to that metal "shoe" on top of most/all cameras and then plug it in at one of the jack points (think plugging ear phones into a Walkman)...

Google, eBay, Kelkoo or camera shops - that's what you want really.

I used to have a Baby Sennheiser, which had a mono mini plug (like an earphone plug). It needed a small watch battery and it ran me about $250. It was great.

Now, I bought a Beacktek adapter which allows me to run XLRs, so I bought a nice Rode shotgun, which is fantastic - also about $250.

This would make a great boom mic, all you need to do is add a wind screen.
