Sorry, but in the 80s computers were new and almost magical - hence you could believe in some hokey scifi reality inside them...

Now everyone has them, and they are no more magical than a George Foreman grill! Just can't see a new film working!

I'm sceptical, I must admit. I don't know where they can go with it.

Is it going to look like the original? If so, why? You had way better graphics generations ago. If they update it, it's a bit odd and not really like Tron.

I don't see the point, I always think of Tron as being very much within it's time, but like you said Neil, computers are so everyday now.

Woman, I know you did not just insult the foreman grill.

Don't make me make minion slap you 'round with his bits again. :hyper:

Considering that videogames now outsell movies and CD's, I think this might work. Ol' Bridges is up for it too apparently.

i love the original tron. i thought it was kick ass when i was a kid and i still think it is a pretty cool movie.

i'd be willing to give a sequel a look. though, i'll admit my expectations will kept on a low simmer, so if it ends up sucking i won't be too put out.

It's a real crapy camcorder clip in mp4 format (quicktime player)... But listen to the audience :)

Wow! Not a single person commented on that previous post/link!

Anyway, here's an interesting article about Tron2:-

Oh yeah, I saw the clip - looks nifty. I'll deffo check out Tron 2.

It's got the vibe of Tron, but with better graphics - but not in a way that blows the style out of the water, it's essentially the same style, but with today's capability.

Let's just hope that:-
1) The plot is in there...
2) It isn't unbelievable now. Back in the 80s computers were magical and you could buy into the little people in computers. Now, we're all much wiser to them, to the extend we generally hate ignore them, or hate them!

1) Deffo, you need a good script, end of.
2) lol - some nerd comes along and CTRL+ALT+DLT's their asses, End Task's their butts, and generally messes around with their HKEY's. :p

Couple of updates on this. Filming began this month in Vancouver, with a speculated budget of $250,000,000. Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner and Garrett Hedlund are confirmed to appear, and French dance outfit Daft Punk have signed on to do the score. The target release date is summer 2010.

What's with modern movie executives? This film, no matter how good it may be, will NEVER EVER recover it's budget. I mean, shit. That's so much money you could waste it on a really, really high-concept film... But I don't think Tron 2 is what I'd call a "high concept" film!

However...

Kick-fucking-ass. :D

I know. That is the perfect choice to score a movie like this. Can you imagine how f**king cool it's going to be to watch lightcycles zipping across the screen with Daft Punk kicking it large. I really want to see TR2N now.

Cinema + game rights + dvd + bluray + score + merchandise + tv series etc?....

A franchise is worth risking/spending 250million on - Ask Mr Lucas :)

Yeah, but Star Wars was three movies, plus a hell of a lot of merch, and it all kicked off in the late 70s and early 80s and became a huge cultural phenomena.

Tron was something very big indeed, but it's nowhere near the standing that Star Wars has. Plus, because of Star Wars' sustained (and fevered) cultural standing, it was piss-easy to get another three movies out of the franchise.

Tron was way back in the early 80s, there's been no other Tron movies, I don't remember a whole shedload of merch if any ... so 250 million dollery-doo's sounds like a bit much to me...plus, should it really need to cost that much?!

Bloody nora.

I must watch Tron again at some point, the special edition DVD does go quite cheap these days ... ... anyway - Daft Punk = inspired choice for the soundtrack.

Wang a bit of "Robot Rock" on there. :D

Let's put it into context - Monster vs Aliens cost nearly $200,000,000.

Well, they used a new 3D technique it it, which alone accounted for 15,000,000 I believe? I suspect Tron will be pushing some new technology, hence the costs!

Actually, I'm hoping that the soundtrack will kind of follow the old skool mode of home computer bleepery and breakbeats. That is what Daft Punk do best. It would be nice to have some strangeness in there too, like the soundtrack to Irreversible (one half of Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter, did the score and I think it's the best thing he's released).

The tune 'Stress' springs to mind, pure MCP showdown material:

Some script details of TR2N have emerged also but I think it's a little too early to be posting them now.

250m? They must be expecting some stimulus money from .gov to underwrite that monster budget.

Yeah, the score will sell shitloads. That's pretty much guaranteed.

As for the script details that I said I wasn't going to post, here (http://www.aintitcool.com/?q=node/40285) they are. Take it with a large pinch though.
